RE: Throwing a Good Slumber Party
It all depends on the ages of the girls attending the sleepover (I am assuming that it is for girls!). My 11 year old had a slumber party a few months ago and everyone had a great time!

She had a spa themed party- we picked up stuff at the dollar store for mud masks, some new fresh makeup nail polishes and hair stuff for make overs. There was plenty of music, movies, snacks (good and bad) and of course playing games (truth or dare, light as a feather). A slumber party is pretty easy to throw together for a decent price (I think our costed around $25 for everything!) and it all depends on how the girls decide to act- I laid down a few rules- no name calling, excluding anyone- basic nice manners was all I was asking for and everyone was "cool" with that. I hope you have a good time! ... View related article.

RE: Reducing My Utility Bills
I know that they cost a bit of money- but have you switched to the energy efficeint light bulbs? I have heard many people get them but I have not as of yet- I plan on getting some when they are on sale. I agree with what the other posters put- shut off lights when not needed, unplug any items not being used. One thing that I do since the weather is nice is line dry my clothes- another thing about laundry- wait until you have full loads to wash your clothes- no matter what size of laundry you do- it costs the same amount of money to run it!

We went through the same thing with our electric company this year and we went on the budget plan. It really stinks to pay that bill in the summer (when our prices drop dramtically)- but it will feel good when the prices will go back up high in the winter time! ... View related article.

RE: Co-Signer of a Student Loan
I am really not sure- but honestly I would have him call the lending company and discuss with them the situation. If she does not pay- he would be held accountable and if anything should happen with her not paying- you would then have to try to take her to court over the matter! Sorry I can't help you out though! Good luck with this and her! ... View related article.

RE: Niagara Falls Vacation Tips
We went to Niagara Falls last year and had a wonderful time! We stayed at Quality Inn Clifton hill- not the Hilton- but really close to the falls and we got a great package deal ( dinner voucher, free breakfast and something else). Anyways- even though I really liked the location- stay away from Clifton hill if you want to save money- for the most part it is the hub of Niagara Falls and everything is overpriced and a rip off! I think the only thing that was worth anything was the arcade (I think it was the Great Canadian Midway)- we also went to the Fun House (almost $45 for something we went through in under 5 minutes- Ripleys was expensive even with a coupon- it was interesting though!). We did the Niagara Falls package deal (White water walk, butterfly conservatory, Maid of the mist and Journey behind the falls)- it was well worth it- you can pick it up at the bottom of Clifton Hill (I think it was around $100 for the 4 of us- the youngest was free however!)- once again- this was one of our favorite things on our trip. If you take this package (which every stop is well worth it- By the way- if you get it- go to the Butterfly conservatory first- the butterflies are more active!)- somewhat across the street from the White Water walk is a gift shop- the have large things on the outside to take your pictures with- can't miss it!- there is a glass blowing demostration which is very interesting! The souvenir prices are not too bad (they had coupons for them in the coupon booklets throughout the town!). Eating can be costly there- so plan ahead- if you can't get a package deal- try to have breakfast in your room, eat at places locals would frequent.

I will also suggest checking out the American side- yes you can't see the Horseshoe falls- but you are right there! It is less crowded (people are friendlier!), a beautiful more natural feeling. I will also suggest getting the American side package as well if you have the money. We did not get it but are hoping that next year we can go and stay on the American side to check that out more! We did go on the trolley ride (only $3 for the entire family!) and checked out the Aquarium on the American side and must say that was the cheapest things we did on vacation and we enjoyed it the most (we did miss the Cave of Winds- we really wanted to do it but was pressed on time- they give you "free" water shoes- they are including in the admission!).

Check out Trip advisor for the Niagara Falls section to see what interesting things to see, ideas on cheap decent places to eat and what is worth the money. I hope that helps and have a fun time! ... View related article.

RE: Hat Theme Party
One thing that I make for Halloween might be a good "treat". It is simple to make: You need fudge stripe cookies, hershey kisses, licorice ropes (thin ones) and chocolate icing. Flip the fudge cookie over and put a little bit of icing around inner hole to secure hershey kiss in place over the middle hole. I wrap a licorice around the kiss to look like ribbon (makes a cute witches hat)- it is easier to make the day before.

As for decorating, my personal favorite, is good old construction paper. I would cut out hats (cowboy, party hats etc.). Or if you are really creative, you can try to make hats out of news paper (I have seen it done- don't know how to do it though). If you have a little bit of money to spare, I would check out a party store and see if they happen to have a western theme party- they may have some decorations with hats. ... View related article.

RE: Starting on Christmas Gifts
Last year (after Christmas), I picked up plastic candy forms in Christmas shapes (only 10 cents each!) and clear glass Christmas ornaments and paints. I plan on making scented soaps for the women and chocolates for the men in my family from the candy forms (friends too!), Each family will get an ornament as well.

I usually start after Christmas for the following year, but it seems everyone else is doing that more now! I have noticed that many stores put stuff on clearance in July, so I usually pick up a few toys for my kids and children in my family.

Oh, I also have a short easy recipe:
you can come up with your own name, I just call it yum!

You need a cake pan (9x13)
Angel Food cake
French vanilla ice cream
Caramel Syrup

Rip the angel food cake into med. size pieces and place in cake pan.
Scoop vanilla ice cream in between and on top of cake (usually takes not a whole half gallon of ice cream)
Squirt caramel topping on top of both ice cream and cake, then you freeze it until getting ready to serve. I usually set it out about 10 minutes before eating to soften the ice cream, once it starts melting, it gets even more delicious! ... View related article.

RE: Throwing a Grandma Shower
What Grandma does not have a brag book? I would check to see if she has a digital camera, if she does, I would get her photo paper and an album. If she does not maybe get film (or disposeable camera) and an album. Or, if there is a lot of people to chip in maybe purchase a digital camera for her.

Another idea is a Grandma book. My mom got one a few years ago for my children- it is a book that you fill out, about how you grew up, stories from your life, advice on life, favorite recipes and etc. She is still working on it, I think this is a wonderful idea, I think that is one thing that everyone questions about once someone is gone from our lives. I believe that she picked it up from a bookstore for about $15. ... View related article.

RE: Eating for a Month on $150
Definately look into an Aldi's close by and the Angel Food Ministries! Also cooking from scratch helps a lot!
We went from 2 incomes to 1 (we had a baby and could not afford to have child care- even with help from a state agency). I joined a food bank (which also helps at Holidays) and starting shopping at an Aldi's. My husband packs his lunches and the kids and I have simple lunches (school age child qualified for discounted lunch- which is cheaper than packing a lunch). And at least once a week I make breakfast for dinner - hubby does not care for that too much- he is a meat and potato kind of guy. I on average spend about $140 a month on groceries. One thing for sure if you have a little bit extra to spend- stock up on pantry items like canned vegetables and the like- those canned vegetables add up quick (sometimes a local store has them on sale for 25 cents a can). Never underestimate the power of Libraries- our local library has a bin that people put their unwanted coupons in- usually I will find a few things that my family likes and lastly scope out your local grocery stores ads- sometimes they will have a great sale on something that you may have a coupon for! ... RE: Purchase Your Clothes Off Season
I have been buying clothes off season for awhile now. My oldest daughter is becoming "label obsessed"- unfortunatley my wallet disagrees! In April of this year we had to go to the mall to pick up a present, she convinced me to go to Limited Too- which is her favorite store. I was so happy when I saw that they were having a clearance blowout on their winter clothing (there was also some fall and early spring clothes)- I spent about $30 and got about 10 long sleeve shirts, 3 short sleeve shirts a couple skirts and 2 pairs of jeans! So that helped my BTS budget so much this year- we only have to get socks shoes and pencils! ... View related article.
