I work in produce, the way the store keeps lettuce,celery,and other veggies fresh is to crisp them. When you first get them, trim off the root, let sit for 5min in warm water, put in frig and then everyday we trim off a little bit of more root, and rinse with cold water. or let sit in cold water. But at home i crisp my lettuce when i first get it and then wrap tightly in plastic wrap to let no air in and leave it til i need it, i then only cut root if i use it again and rewrap and my lettuce lasts for around 2 weeks. good luck! ... today i put it out on the deck in the morning and just brought it in, at 6ish. and it was warm and windy out it helped some, but it still has some smell to it, i think if it is nice out tom. i will put it back outside and try airing it out again, and if it doesnt work i will try the newspaper and charcoal thing the next day. i use a carpet cleaner from menards, it works well on car carpets and seats, i detail cars, and that is the best cleaner to use other than a actual cleaner machine. it is called, heavy duty carpet stain remover, by nest dimensions* it is a blueish color can and a purpleish lid, it is hard to find sometimes, they keep it with the vacuums. hi, i have used "heavy duty carpet stain remover" by next dimension... i have used it in cars for carpets and the seats... i buy it at menards. it is like 2 somthing a bottle. it is blueish can with purple cap. works really well. hope it helps you, if you can find it... good luck ...
