RE: Keeping Track of Fun, Low-Cost Family Activities
I love to take my daughter to the park. We live in a very small town so everything is close to our home. First we walk down to our local cafe for a small chocolate ice cream which doesn't cost but $1.69 and then we walk to the park. She enjoys sitting on the picnic table and eating her ice cream as she watches the cars go by. When she's finished with the ice cream we go and play. Some days we just swing and play on the slide, others we play on everything (even in the sand). She really enjoys it and it is great exercise for me too. ... View related article.

RE: Trick or Treating Bag
I found Spongebob Squarepants trick-or-treat bag at Wal-Mart for only 48 cents! (They had everything from Spiderman to Carebears too) I'm going to use that for my daughter's trick-or-treat bag this year since she is Spongebob's #1 fan! :-) I'm also going to use your idea and carry along a pillowcase to use to dump some of the candy is so it won't become too heavy for her to carry. ... RE: Babysitters Rules vs. Grandma's Rights
Being that they are only your grandchildren you should respect your daughter-in-laws wishes and do as she wants with HER children. I can understand she not wanting you to rock the baby to sleep anymore, they do get depended on that and it's the only way to put them to sleep. Not fun at 2 a.m. I don't see her point with the toys though, since you are taking them back with you, and if the kids aren't giving her a hard time about the toys once they're gone. I think that you should do as your daughter-in-law wishes though. Having gone through mother-in-law conflicts myself, I can tell you it will make it much easier on all of you to do as she wants. They are her children and she has her own ways of wanting to do things. I'm sure this causes problems between her and your son too. It's hard for a mother to realize that her child is the parent and has to do things their own way and not how she wants it done anymore. I hope everything works out between the two of you. The way my mother-in-law and I do it is, if one does something the other doesn't like we let it be known then, because I'm sure you know yourself that holding it in only makes it worse when it does come out. Best of luck to you! ... View related article.

RE: Organizing Children's Books
I'm having the same problem, so the advice helped me too. Thank you! I'm a member of our local freecycle and it didn't even cross my mind to post on there for one. By the way, the website for freecycle is www.freecycle.org if you want to try to find you one also. I seen on www.wal-mart.com they have small bookcases for only $17.98 which isn't that bad. ...
