Cook all meats in a crock pot or slow cooker most of the day, It will tenderize most any meat so it is melt-in-your-mouth tender. Adding meats to soups will do the same thing. ... View related article.

RE: Cheap Meals
Go to http://www.budget101.com for great recipes, convenience recipes and ideas for inexpensive meal preparation. I think meals made at home for $10 per person is an outrageous price and does not merit the word frugal to be attached to it. At budget101, you'll find out how to stretch every penny of your food budget while feeding your family very well and having enough leftovers for another day or seconds all around the table.

Buy generic or store brands when shopping. The savings will soothe the overstretched budget no matter what it is. Try to plant some seeds for your own garden and bring the cost of vegetables way, way down for your own use. Remember that herbs and many small plant vegetables like many pepper varieties will grow nicely in window boxes and flower pots. Save here by planting seeds rather than buying started plants. Support for your tomatoes can be as simple as a branch clipped off a tree and some old stockings to tie the stalk to the branch stuck in the ground near the tomato plant, Include a packet of seeds in every trip for groceries and keep the garden going. That will be your greatest success to bring the price of food down. ... View related article.

RE: Freezing Milk
Sure can. I live alone, but buy it by the gallon because it is cheaper by the gallon. I then divide it into freezer-hardy containers leaving about 2" head space for expansion during freezing. This way, I can thaw one of the containers over night and it will be ready in the morning. I've been doing this for as long as I can remember - and there is no difference in taste. ... The truth about freezing plastic bottles
The notion that freezing something in or re-using plastic bottles will cause leeching of some unseen toxin is nothing but an urban myth. It has been tested and disproved over and over. Even snopes.com has verified there is no danger in this practice. There is nothing toxic nor poisonous in the plastic bottles that beverages come in.

For the truth behind this myth, please read more about it here: http://www.snopes.com/medical/toxins/petbottles.asp ... View related article.

RE: Make Your Own Bottled Coffee Drinks
The warnings against putting plastic bottles in the freezer are not valid. There are no harmful chemicals in the plastic the bottles are made of. I personally spoke with representatives from both the pepsi and coca cola bottling companies. At the very worst, the plastic may fail and spill the unfrozen part, but there is nothing poisonous about the bottles in and of themselves. ... View related article.

RE: Grass Not Growing Under Trees
Have you ever noticed there is very little grass in the woods? Grass needs the sunlight that the canopy of the trees keeps from reaching the ground. So, plant shade-loving plants and hang ferns from the lowest branches of those maples. Hostas and english ivy are a great choice. And both will add character to your landscape.

Have you considered making this area into a bird and squirrel feeding station? Position a bird bath at the outer branches of the maple and then hang bird feeders on either side of the tree and scatter corn cobs on the ground for the squirrels. Don't forget to add a hummingbird feeder ... or two. ... View related article.

RE: Being Frugal and Single on Low Income
Check with the missions in your area, ask at local churches if there is a mission or community outreach store. I am a volunteer in one of them in my area. We sell clothes for $1. Everythying - brand new baby clothes, winter coats, dresses, denim jeans, swimsuits - everything. And we have all sizes from infant to mens XXL and ladies 3x and maternity. We give toys away to all children who enter and sell sundries and things you can't get at the food bank like shampoo and aspirin. The one I help in is one of four such stores. Ask at the churches. Most will know of such places in your town. Very few have phones or paid employees. Similar stores have furniture - all donated by people who are upgrading or moving or getting married and turning two households into one. Ask someone working there if they ever get in a certain item or you can leave your contact info about something you need. If it becomes available, they will make every effort to help you out.

There are a whole lot of people in this world who live to help people. The missions and churches are a real good place to start finding them.

Good Luck and God Bless
