| RE: Cheer Up Your Winter Window |
I really like Susan's photo. She obviously had a really green thumb.
I haven't tried planting these in dirt. They grow hair-like roots that trail into the water, so I guess you could plant them. Eventually the heel of the celery gets used up as food for the plant, of course, and when that happened, I harvested the stalks one last time and then composted what was left. ... | RE: Teaching Puppy Not to Chew on Things |
|
He's adorable. I can see he could easily be spoiled because he's so cute. I'd give him a chewie toy to play with, the kind you put kibble in and the dog will keep busy for hours getting the kibble out. It will keep him from being bored, which is a main reason for dogs getting into trouble in the house. ... View related article. |

| RE: Measuring Marshmallow Creme for Fudge Recipe |
Uh oh. A pint a pound (16 ounces) refers to water. Marshmallows and marshmallow creme have a lot of air in then, so you can't use the pint-a-pound rule.
I think the pint in your recipe means 2 cups of marshmallow creme. Three jars sounds like an awful lot. ... View related article. |

| RE: Keeping Driveway Clear of Plowed Snow |
Oh boy. I live on a corner, and every time the plow came around the corner, he filled my driveway with up to 3 feet of snow. I was shoveling up to 5 times a day. I finally asked for a professional opinion and help from the village.
Now the snowplow drivers push the corner snow that is "upstream" from my driveway, into my "upstream" right-of-way. That way, when the plow comes around the corner, there's less snow for him to push into my driveway. I also shovel frequently, of course.
Same idea as Harry's, except the snowplow rather than my shovel does the work. I also have a neighbor with a tractor whom I can call, if necessary.
Ah, sweet spring, where are you? ... View related article. |

| RE: Susan: ThriftyFun Says Goodbye |
I'm so sorry to hear of Susan's death. I didn't know her personally, but I read Thriftyfun.com almost every day, and I always felt her spirit and sense of fun. She did, after all, name her site Thriftyfun.
For all her practical advice, I always felt she was having such a good time. And I'll bet she's still having a great time. My condolences to her family and friends. I hope you find comfort in all these emails from people whose lives Susan has touched. She really knew how to live. ... View related article. |

| RE: Drying Fruit in a Slow Cooker |

Do you mean slow cooker? I googled "drying fruit in slow cooker" and came up with nothing. I thought you had to have some moisture in a slow cooker or the food would burn and stick to the bottom. Microwave, perhaps? Dehydrating food is interesting. Please clarify for us. ... View related article. |
