Hi girls! I have this same problem (now.. but haven't always). I found an interesting article online (link below) that says that self tanners have to kept relatively cool because prolonged heating affects their stability. according to many of you (and me too) the rash presents itself after the skin is heated up, even days later. the article also talks about needing a stabilized pH (between 4 and 6). if I can remember correctly from college chemistry, pH is effected by heat (for us, body heat!).
I wondering if we control the pH of our skin (through regular use of lotion after application of self tanner). if we'll still get a rash. or try to regulate your skin temperature for the first couple of days. or possibly regulate body pH through food? either way, it's the instability of the DHA that causes the reaction, and I assume this is specifically it's unstable pH. here's the article: http://pubs.acs.org/cen/whatstuff/stuff/7824scit2.html...
