RE: Cat Digging in House Plants
I use seashells. You can find them at any craft store. They are pretty and the cats don't want to stand on them. ... View related article.

RE: Painting a Kitchen with Blue Countertops
I have the same color countertop in my laundry room and I had been thinking of trying Granitex to cover it up. Yesterday I painted the laundry room "Twilight Fever" by Valspar. If you go to their website you can see the color. I couldn't be happier! Now I actually like the countertops too! It's that bluish, pinkish, purplish color of the sky right before it gets dark. I was afraid it might be too dark for a small room but it's beautiful! ... View related article.

RE: Salad Recipes for a Wedding
Congratulations on your upcoming marriage!

This is a popular salad around here. It came from an Italian restaurant that recently closed.

Mazza salad

1 head of iceburg lettuce
1/2 cup oil (I use a little less)
1/3 cup red wine vinegar
salt
pepper
lots of garlic (I use 4-6 cloves)
1/2 gorgonzola cheese

Directions: Hand shred lettuce to bite size pieces. Place in bowl. Add oil, vinegar, and garlic. Mix together until the lettuce is soppy and wilted. Add salt and pepper to taste.

This serves a lot of people but once they get a taste they'll want more AND the recipe!
Have a great wedding!

RE: Traveling With a Dog
I have moved from Phoenix to Ohio with two cats. I know you're supposed to keep them in carriers for safety but though 8 hours a day for 5 days was inhumane. We layed 1/2 of the back seat down and put a litter pan, collapsable water bowl and small bowl of food back there and let them enjoy the trip too. The old guy mostly layed on the floor behind the drivers seat but the 5 year old thought is was an excellent adventure! Most Best Westerns, Super 8, Red Roof Inn and Holiday Inn Express will accomodate pets for a $10 charge. Have a GREAT time! ... View related article.

A favorite around here is Lil' Smokeys (cocktail weiners) in BBQ sauce in the crock pot. I also get turkey meatballs from Aldi and put them in the crockpot with a jar of spachetti sauce. ... View related article.

RE: How Often Should I Water My Garden?
Hola! I used to live in Chandler and am now back home in Ohio. I miss the heat! I would water it every day either before the sun comes up or just after sunset to prevent the sun from burning the leaves. If anything starts turning yellow, you're watering too much. Good luck! ... RE: Saving Small Amounts of Leftovers
I use a plastic ice cream bucket and put all leftovers that do NOT contain dairy in it after dinner and stick it in the freezer. When it's full I put it in a stock pot and cover with tomato juice and simmer. Served with crusty bread or cornbread it's really good and it tastes diffetent every time I make it. The boys always say "You can make this anytime!" Little do they know I can't! ... View related article.
