| RE: Repairing an Old Rocking Chair |
I don't know if this is what your looking for but I found it by Googling 'Instructions for Weaving a Chair Seat'. There are other various instructions out there to choose from. http://www.ehow.com/how_2064761_weave-chair-seat.html I was given a chair out of my father in law's barn that needed a seat wolven. I bought a roll of SeaGrass and wove the seat and it turned out beautiful! Hard on the hands and a bit of a challenge but what a thrill to see the finished product :) Good Luck and enjoy your heirloom. ... View related article. |

| RE: Looking for Answers for Dealing with Dog's Fleas |
|
If I remember correctly, years ago when we had a dog we had our house treated by a 'flea busters' company that actually used Boric Acid Powder. They had it in a large shaker type dispenser which they sprinkled throughout the house on the carpeting. They then used a clean pushbroom brush it in. You don't vaccume or clean your carpeting for 2 weeks afterward. You can buy containers of Boric Acid Powder at your Local Hardware Stores. It dehydrates the flea eggs so they don't hatch. Google "Boric Acid Powder for Flea Control" to check it out. ... View related article. |

| RE: Preventing Root Growth in Drain Pipes |
|
This is a recommendation my Husband received from the 'Rent All' Store when he was renting a snake to clear our root clogged sewer pipes. Pour a gallon of bleach down the drain once a month. We have been doing this for probably 2 years now and have had no more root clogged drains! Saves us from calling the Plumber every 6 months or so to pay him to roto the sewer line. ... | RE: Homemade Garden Hose Holder |
|
I've made several using scrap pressure treated lumber. I used a scrap 4x4 cut to the height I wanted it to stand once it was set in a hole in the ground, say maybe 5' long total. Then I took scrap 2x4's and cut two to the same legnth about 18", drilled 2 holes in each on one end and mounted them, one on either side of the the 4x4 about 6" from the top to use as 'arms' to hold the hose. These last for years and my cat loves to sit on the top of the post as her look out :) I've used the same concept on my privacy fence where I needed a hose holder by using the 4x4 fence post and mounting the 2 'arms' about 8" from the top of the post. ... | RE: Bobbin Isn't Picking Up Top Thread |
|
I don't know if this will help with your problem or not but my new Singer gave me fits with the bobbin thread so I took it back to JoAnn's Fabric. They showed me I was putting the bobbin in the case incorrectly. The bobbin needs to go in the case with the dangling tail of the thread on the left side. It would look like the letter p if you held the bobbin and looked at it. ALSO, to insert the bobbin case into the machine you have to hold the case by the little latch or arm on the case - it has to be extended out then you snap the case into the machine and fold the arm down. My 40 year old sewing machine wasn't picky about how you inserted the bobbin thread/case so this was news to me. Good Luck as it sure is frustrating. | RE: Ideas for Using Stand from a Bird Bath |
|
It depends on what type of base you have as to it's uses. If it's one of the 'hollow' bases you have more options. You can use the top to hold a gazing ball. I make my gazing balls from bowling balls decorated with glass globs and they look nice displayed on top of a birdbath stand. You can turn it over and bury the 'top' and use the bottom to hold pots, use as a planter or sit a Terracotta Saucer on for a bird bath. If your stand is a concrete type and has the 'bump' on top to hold the bath portion you can turn the base over and sink it into a hole to hold it upright then use the base for a plant stand or set a Terracotta Saucer on it for a bird bath. ... | RE: Couch is Getting Lower and Softer |
I was having the same problem with the cushions from my sectional sofa. I measured the cushions and called a local foam supply store for pricing on a sheet of 1" foam. It was cheaper to buy it from the Supply Store rather than buying it from a craft store as they can cut the sheet to the total measurements that you need whereas the craft store foam is pre-cut.
It was pricey as I had to do 5 large seat cushions but for the 1" foam sheeting and a can of foam adhesive it came to $80.00. I rolled out the sheeting on the floor and traced around each piece of foam with a pen and numbered each piece of foam with the cushion it belonged to. You may need to arrange all the foam from the cushions a few times to get them all to fit as they do not give you much extra to work with.
When you have them arranged and traced to fit, then cut out the 'patterns' on the foam with household scissors. You spray both pieces of foam, the 1" piece and the side of the cushion you are going to apply it to then carefully match them together. The glue dries fast so you have to be careful. I let them sit to dry for 24 hours before I put them back into the fabric casings.
Getting the foam cushions back into the casing was actually harder than doing everything else! Folding the cushion in half then sliding it into the cover then spreading it out to fit - it's really a two person job. I love my sofa and did not want to replace it so the money was well spent to give it a longer life. ... View related article. |
