Profile For MattHfromNH - MATT H from NH

Hello everyone,

I'm Matt, a  31 year old from a small town in New Hampshire.  Having been on SSI and SSDI for quite a few years (due to medical reasons), I have noticed myself having to be more and more thrifty over the years as my income is limited.

I am the type of person that loves reading other people's suggestions and then working them into my daily routine.  Whenever possible, I try to offer my own suggestions when pertaining to things I do in my own life to make my budget stretch, my health better and overall make my life (though having some hardships) all the more enjoyable.

As I tend to ramble I would like to include some of my interests which include reading (of all types, whether its fictional all the way down to magazines), music (I play the piano by ear), tennis, volleyball, hanging out with firiends, travelings and volunteering in the communtity.

I welcome correspondence from anyone ... not necessarily just in New England ... it would be great to have some Thrifty Fun "penpals" across the country.

This may be funny and to the point:

RE: Recipes Using Yellow Mustard
I know most people wouldn't make a meal from it - although I eat enough snacks they might as well be considered a full-course dinner!
Anyway, I am not totally sure of the recipe but I do know that the times I go grocery shopping they always have pretzels that have mustard flavor baked in. Perhaps if you made a sort of mixture of mustard etc. and slathered the pretzel nuggets in it with dried onion that would be tasty. If anything, you could give some of the Mustard Pretzels to a lot of people on your holiday giving list.. Area food banks are usually lacking condiments and they could put the mustard jars/bottles at their tables with evening shared meals. I know these aren't the greatest/original of ideas but they might get you brainstorming! My best ~ MATT ... View related article.

RE: Odee (Yorkshire Terrier)
Darlene ~ First and foremost I am sorry for the loss of your beloved Toby. Even though he was 12 years old, losing any animal is such a hard thing. I am glad though that you were able to get another dog and fill the void in your heart. Talk about a small world! The first dog I remember having growing up was a silky terrier which is much like Odee though she had much longer fur and bangs that constantly needed to be trimmed. On another note, my grandparents have lived in Perry Iowa for 80+ years ... Jim and Diana ... they live over on 15th street. Would be cool to hear from you if you'd like to chat. Even though I now live in NH, I still consider Iowa (having been born in Cedar Rapids) to be home. Take care ~ MATT ... View related article.

RE: Potato Puff Casserole
When some friends of the family make this they put one package of frozen brocolli in as well as a coating of french fried onions (the type you put on Green Bean Casserole) ... even though Im 29 years old this is my favorite "kid favored" recipe. People really need to try it .. its goooood. ... View related article.

RE: Gas Smell In Garage
Hello Susan,
Talk about a small world ... I was born in Cedar Rapids! The following is a link to a website that says to use either liquid detergent or the other powedered laundry type ... have never tried either ... but you never know --- might just do the trick! And remember: - Keep gasoline in small quantities only and in a proper, tightly sealed container labeled "gasoline." Never store gasoline in a garage with an appliance that contains a pilot light.

RE: Knowing When a Website Was Last Updated
Feemayl,
Thank you so much for your suggestion for how to find out when a website was last updated. I used the javascript alert and it has worked great! It's so easy, quick and simple a function now that I know of it !! ... and here I used to painstakingly look all over a website to "get a clue" as to when it may have been published, etc. Thank you for taking the time to write and assist. I apologize in not having written a THANK YOU sooner ... This is such a great website and I truly appreicate the help of people like yourself. Sincerely, MATT H from NH ... View related article.

RE: Group Names for a High School Reunion
Sharon,
The following game was used more as an "intoduction" game but would certainly work for people that already know each other as well. It's called "Break the Ice" Bingo. On a pre-set bingo grid with the FREE Space in its regular spot, print anything imaginable from "drove/flew in from California" to has 3 kids, is a grandparent, married their classsweetheart etc. Then make copies to hand out to every person who comes (make extras in case people bring more people!) Make sure to have many pens or even miniature golf pencils on hand. The object is to have everyone go from person to person and get re-aquainted. The only catch is that they can only ask ONE of the square questions to that ONE person so it gets everyone talking to everyone and the first to get a BINGO (or if you want it to last longer a FULLY covered card) wins. Whomever asks the question and get it "right" with the person they asked, that questioner gets the questionees signature as proof in their square. Was sure fun when I played it ... let me know if you try it and how it goes. Have a great 35th Reunion! --- MATT ... View related article.

RE: Heating Oil Smell on Luggage
Hello, I had a similar situation this past summer (though not exactly) ... but hopefully my solution to my problem will help with yours. I purcahsed a large set of luggage for an unbelievable price from a large chain store and when bringing it home it had that "direct from factory/ sitting in a warehouse" scent. Instead of washing it I opened up each and every piece and half-filled it with kitty littler and then sealed it back up. After two to three days of being closed I put in a fresh layer of kitty litter (which may or may not be necessary) and flipped the bag over so that the top was now the bottom. I put dryer sheets in all the pockets and nooks and crannies and for the outside I febrezed the heck out of it every chance I got!! The whole time I had the bags on a screened in porch hoping the cool nights would assist ... but definitely make sure its away from cats-they might think its their new commode!HAHA. Best of luck and let me know if you have success --- MATT ... View related article.

RE: Knowing When a Website Was Last Updated
Camo_Angels: Thank you so much for your valuable information ... I really appreciate all that you stated and now I can feel more confident when citing publications from the internet. When I was first studying to be a paralegal years ago it would become aggravating at times that the "law was fluid" and literally after writing a paper the laws could change overnight (We had to deal with some old lawbooks too and the year I was done they THEN starting using Westlaw online ... go figure LOL) I wish you much sucess in your education and thank you again!! --- MATT ...
