RE: Getting Rid of Fungus Gnats
I had great success following this tip when I had the fungus gnat nightmare.

Get a bag of sandbox sand from your home improvement center. If you can, cover the top of the soil of each plant pot with at least a 1/2 inch thick layer of sand. If your pot does not allow that minimum depth of a layer, you may have to re-pot and then top with sand.

If you feel that there are "critters" in the bag of sand, use a large disposable aluminum baking pan (you can re-use it for this process) and heat the sand in you oven for about 30 minutes at 350°F. Cool completely.

Place this flexible pan on an old cookie sheet or pizza pan for stability before you put the sand in the pan and then into the oven.

I sure do hope these hints from the folks who responded help you with this frustrating and annoying problem. ... View related article.

RE: Craft Project: Two Aprons from One Overall
I really like your idea and the finished products! I'm thinking this could be done with adult or children's size overalls. Good job, Jackie :D

RE: Cigarette Smoke on Plastic
That dreaded cigarette smoke smell ... Baking soda seems to work wonders on so many things to remove odors. Try spreading dry baking soda heavily all over one side and leave in the sun if possible. Next day do the other side. You might try washing with vinegar and then soapy water.

Peace and God's Blessings

RE: Craft: Terra Cotta Garden Birdbath
OH, SHERI! WHAT A BEAUTIFUL AND CLEVER IDEA. THIS IS A PROJECT THAT CAN BE DONE WITH KIDS ... AND SO MANY FOLKS ARE LOOKING FOR PROJECTS THAT OLDER KIDS WOULD LIKE TO DO THEMSELVES.

IF YOU NEED A SPECIAL GIFT FOR A FRIEND, IT WOULD BE FUN TO GET EVERYTHING IN ADVANCE AND DO THE PROJECT TOGETHER OVER SEVERAL VISITS.

THANK YOU FOR SHARING THIS ARTFULLY DONE SCULPTURE WITH US ... THE PHOTO IS GREAT!

PEACE AND GOD BLESS YOU - JOAN E. - DILLEY TX ... View related article.

RE: Gardening at a Rental House
You are getting some really great advice in these responses.

You mentioned something pretty to grow in a container in your yard. I would take a trip to a plant nursery and talk to some qualified folks there. The zone you are in perhaps has certain conditions to consider and free advice from a trained nursery person would help. (What a way to spend a morning ... surrounded by acres of PLANTS!)

I live in south Texas and HIBISCUS do well here as long as they get plenty of water and some light shade during the 115 degree days of mid-summer. Peace and Blessings, Joan ... View related article.

RE: Rope Lights Under Kitchen Counters
I am disabled and wondered for the longest time how i could safely and cheaply light up my hall along the baseboard. Now i can use rope lights and not have to fumble with switches in the middle of the night! Thank you so much for your tip, glowgirl ... View related article.

RE: Craft: Fish Bowl Snowman
Sandy, I really like your idea ...he is the cutest guy!
gardenlady, your idea of adding the lights inside is dandy! You know, my mind is going 90 mph with different themes for these bowls. How about a birthday theme bowl with a smiley face and added doodles. Add the lights inside and you have a perfect centerpiece for family birthdays. Or make one and give it to the birthday person as a gift!
You could make one for any kind of celebration, right?
Sandy, did you ever think that your cute snow guy would have created such a "snow storm" of ideas?
Thanks for sharing ... Joan -- Dilley TX ... View related article.
