RE: Charging Roommates to Use My Washer and Dryer
When my adult son and a friend of his decided to move back home after they got out of the Army, we sat down and I explained to them what it cost for me to run my household and then we decided on a fair amount that they should "pay" me each week. It helped them to know why I expected them to help pay for expenses and eased what could have been a very tough financial burden on me. It worked out very well and now they both have their own homes. Maybe if you go over your bills with them and let them know just how much it takes each month, they will more willing to ante up their share of the costs. ... View related article.

RE: Freezing Green Peppers
I freeze my own seasoning mix for soups and stews by chopping onion, pepper and celery and mixing it all together on a cookie sheet lined with wax paper and freeze for about an hour or so. When it's frozen just lift up the wax paper off the cookie sheet and slide the vegies into my freezer containers for future use. It's a great time saver for me. ... View related article.

RE: Learn Colors At Bathtime
I've been doing this for years first with my grandson and now with his little sister when they visit. We've explored with many combinations and they absolutely love it! Right now his favorite is "pond water" where we just mix all the colors together and it ends up looking just like dirty pond water. What little boy wouldn't love getting clean in a "pond"! ... RE: The Peer Pressure of Giving
Thank you so much for your article. You are so right that we are a society that worries entirely too much on buying. I also come from a large family and several years ago we all decided to change our tradition of exchanging gifts amongst ourselves. Instead we find a family in need and we all chip in and we make Christmas for that family. It is so easy to find those who are in need. Just ask your preacher, local school or you may even know of a family in need. After the family is picked, we get a wish list from them, again from whomever finds the family for us and we buy a few toys for the children but also clothes and we also include the parents as they almost always go without to make sure their kids have what they need. We get them clothes, household items such as cleaning supplies, toilet paper, ect. and we also provide their meal for Christmas day. We then arrange for someone to deliver all of this to the parents so they don't know who we are. When we decided to do this we all agreed that it should be done annonymously not only as to not embarrass the family, but more importantly, when you give it should be done from the heart and not for recognition. All of our children get plenty and usually more than they need at Christmas and it is a wonderful lesson for them. Giving in this way I think is the truly Christian thing to do. Remember the reason for the season. God first gave us all the ulimate gift of his only begotten Son! ... View related article.

RE: Looking For Old Fashioned Blackberry Cobbler Recipe
What I do is rinse about 2 cups or so of blackberries and then put about a cup of sugar and gently mix and let this sit for about 30 minutes. I melt one stick of butter in a 9 x 13 pan in a 350 degree oven and mix 1 cup of flour 1 cup of milk and 3/4 cup sugar until all lumps are dissolved. I take the pan of melted butter out of the oven and pour my batter mix into the pan. I then spoon my berries and juice over the batter and let this bake for approximtely 30 minutes or so. The crust will rise over the fruit. This is the best cobber I've ever had and so easy to make! You can substitue canned peaches or apples and it's good with those to.. About five minutes before it's finished i like to put a fine sprinkling of sugar over the top and then let it finish in the oven... Great with ice cream over top of it. Hope you enjoy! ... RE: Getting An Opossum To Go Away
Put some ammonia in a spray bottle and mist it over your trash. Nothing will bother it with the ammonia smell on it. My dog used to pull my trash can over and knock the lid off to get to the trash but since I've been spraying it with ammonia he hasn't touched it. ... View related article.
