Profile For Cindy D - Isabella Quilts

I am a stay at home mom. Currently homeschool my 10 year old son. I'm getting a refresher course as we go along....lol...

I Love to Quilt & Sew. I make all my own quilts, shams, curtains, pillowcases, Bags / Totes, some clothing.

I also love to remodel, paint, redecorate, Love thrift store / yard sale finds. I try to re-purpose tossed treasures.Kinda like trash 2 treasures.                                           Even take things from my house and re-vamp them for a new purpose. With a little Imagination you can take make a simple project Into something really spectacular.

I love a "uncluttered" home. However, latley It's taken over so I'm trying to get It under control for the New Year...

I am Into health & wellness. I try to use as many natural products for cleaning & skincare as possible.

I recycle all my newspapers by taking them to the local vet /shelters.

RE: Call To Save Wal-Mart's Fabric Department
I am with all who want to save the Fabic Dept In our local wal-mart stores. They don't realize this Is the only fabric chioce some people have. I too love buying fabric there as well. I will be among the many to voice my opinion. Remember women can be a powerful force to reckon with. Sam Walton would roll over in his grave If he knew half the things taking place In his stores. ... RE: Saving on Cleansers, Dishwashing Liquids and Cleaning Sprays
Great tip on using a smaller bottle for dish washing liquid. I do this as well. I use FULL strength hydrogen peroxide and borax, sometimes baking soda for most all my cleaning needs. It's great on Glass. No streaks! It doesn't harm your lungs, hands or septic system. I can't deal with all the harsh cleaning products on the market today. My alternative Is much cheaper, and works just as well If not better, when compared to all the pricey cleaners available. ... View related article.

RE: Shake Clothing Before Drying
I still shake out my towels before drying. After every load cleaning the lint filter. Along with scrubbing the dryer lint filter with soap & water as It becomes clogged with fabric softener build up. I vaccum off the back to make my dryer more efficient to keep down fire hazards. But I do shake & hang most of my wearables on clothes hangers. It makes for less wrinkles and Ironing much easier. ... RE: Housecleaning Products I Swear By
I've read some wonderful cleaning hints.
I personally like organic cleaners.
Orange TKO (Real Delimonene)
Great for pet stains & oders. I use a medium strength solution when I shampoo my carpets.
It's a natural disinfectant and smells Great.
I clean my toilets full strength, and It's not harmfull to your septic tank or the environment.
It Cleans like nobody's business. I use It In my husband's work clothes & son's play clothes as well.
For cleaning windows, I use Hydrogen Peroxide full strength. I use Old cut up cotton sheets to wipe down all the glass / windows.
Also for the tub & shower I use Borax and a mr.Clean magic eraser.

RE: Repainting Kitchen Counters
You did a great job! I've thought about doing this to mine. They're a dull flat cream color. I've cleaned them so much I've wiped all the sheen off, and they're laminate !
What do you clean/disinfect them with ?
This would be a great alternative to the real thing. I hear they have to be oiled a couple of times a year. Please I would love to hear your response on this...Thank you for sharing..As you can see In the background In this picture I am In the process of making New living room curtains. I did the faux paint technique with a car sponge and an aluminum pan. My Living room Is 28 X 17. It only took about an hour to complete the sponging effect. Too Many Projects going on. But I am thinking of doing the counters next. ... View related article.

RE: "Always There" Pincushion On Your Sewing Machine
Great Idea !
I have used scrap fleece and scraps of leftover quilt batting to make a rectangle and velcro to the side of my machine.I sewed the rectangles together and stuffed the quilt batting in and whip stitched together, sewed on the velcro and there you have a accessible pincushion as you sew or quilt. ... RE: Sewing Machine Applique
I personally love to applique on quilt blocks or purses..etc..
I use dryer sheets or non-woven fusible web and do It the Eleanor Burns way. It's very easy and once quilted you can't tell the difference. I use a straight stitch sometimes. But satin stitch is very pretty too.
If your machine offers different decorative stitches you can make a real heirloom quilt to be passed down through the family. ... View related article.

RE: Quilting Frame to Use With a Sewing Machine
The one In the picture Is a baby quilt 43x39 Inches. I was able to quilt It comfortably on my home sewing machine without too much of a problem. This was my first attempt at free motion quilting. You have to get used to moving the fabric around Instead of letting the feed dog do the work for you.
John Flynn has one that can be used with your home sewing machine.
There are others but they can be a bit pricey.
http://www.johnflynn.com or you can look on e-bay. Nancy's notion's also carries this Item as well...I don't like wrangling those big quilts either.
So I thought I would try Betty Cotton's "Cotton Theory" quilting method.I have the book and Dvd to start this project, along with my Many others. ... View related article.
