Profile For nawlinsbargains - Laura's Yearly Savings

My name is Laura and I am mother of two daughter and first time maw maw this year to a baby girl. :) We live in Kenner, Louisiana, which is 13 miles outside of New Orleans..   I am a stay at  home mom on disability due to a broken back and back surgery.

Due to this and hurricane Katrina I've learned to live on a very low income.  I grew up vey poor also with just myself, my brother and my mother.   We didn't use coupons while growing up though, which I am really surprise about since I see how much money I can save now as an adult.

I turned to using coupons and doing rebates only a few short years ago,  I started around March of 2006 sometime.  I love it and I am addicted now.  I hate to pay retail for anything, it just kills me.  I've done so well with this that I've been able to stockpile my own house, give to my daughter while she was in college, give to the food bank, send a care package monthly to a troop of 20, have 2 huge yard sales and give a big box of toys to Toys for Tots.

Update: I now help my daughter who lives on her own and has a baby.  Today 3-20-09 she called me and said, "mom you would be so proud of me today, I saved $30 with coupons!"  Strange enough it almost brought tears to my eyes to know she was listening to me when I thought she was just blowing me off.  ha ha  I am so happy she picked up this to listen about, because I know it will continue to save her and her family money for the rest of her life.

I found this site while looking for somewhere to keep records of my rebates, wins and money spent.  I am interested in keeping better records and meeting people with my interest.

I look forward to learning a lot more about saving too.

RE: Thrifty Homemade Dog Toys
I was doing something like this for my dog until she started eating it all! :( I was using the paper towel rolls, putting treats in the middle then folding the ends. She goes nuts for these and I was so happy to give them to her, but she started eating a lot of the roll too. She is a boxer/pit mix so she eats everything.
Good tip for most, I am sure your dogs will love it.
