RE: Getting Adult Child to Clean Up
I had this challenge once with two older teenage children, and this is how I successfully handled it. I asked for an initial deposit ( a significant sum they would not want to lose) if they wanted to stay explaining I expected them to hold up to their responsibilities which they were not.

One child said he'd sleep in his van rather than submit to my blackmail. I said that that was OK with me. He could come in to eat, shower and answer the phone. Otherwise he was out in his van. After three days, he relented, and he never had to replace his deposit.

My daughter did have to replace her deposit once and once only. When they left, I gave them back their unused deposits. I did not want their money, just they keep their areas clean, period.

IF you are going to do this you need to be firm. If they want to live there, they have to respect the contract they signed. ... View related article.

RE: Saving Money on Celery
Storing celery wrapped fully in aluminum foil does extend it's fridge life to twice the amount of time safely stored. If it starts to go soft I cut off the end of it and place the stalks in a tall glass of cold water and keep in the fridge. Extends it even further. ... View related article.

RE: My Dryer is Stealing Fresh Scent from Clothes!
Don't know what's happening. Dryer sheets are not the best alternative. To keep from static cling problem, crumple up aluminum foil into a small ball and put into dryer. No more static cling. Dryer sheets can also foul up your dryer and damage it.
Wish I could remember why. So I get an inexpensive fragrance I really like like lavender, put it on a small facecloth and throw it in with my clothes. Lovely smell. They sell bottles of this to spray on you pillowcase at night for aroma therapy.
My pillowcases and bedsheets are aromatherapy for me. Good luck. ... View related article.

RE: Elderly Cat Is Bleeding
What on earth are you asking for advice from this site for when your can really needs to see a vet?
You may be poor, but I've never met a vet who won't allow you to make payments. Please for the sake of the cat get her/him to a vet. Not to do so is cruel. You need to take the iniative NOW! ... View related article.

RE: What to Do with Really Dirty Clothes from Football Camp
My brother worked in a dairy and had to wear white uniforms which got so filthy they wouldn't come white no matter how long she let her old style ringer washer run. So she would boil them in boiling water on the stove in her largest pans until they came clean which they always did. ... View related article.

RE: Pen Left In Wash
I use hairspray to get ink stains off clothing. For really stubborn stains Tide has something out called Buzz Off which gets stains to disappear. Also, there are in the supermarket laundry aisle small yellow containers (about 5" tall x 1-1/2 to 2" wide with one side slanted) of Carbona Stain Devils. There are several formulas in different numbered plastic containers with each telling which specific stains they are to be used on. I used these successfully until I got my Tide Buzz Off at Ocean State Job Lot for $10.00 (they used to go for $40.00) The stain devils never failed to get a stain out for me. The Buzz Off even gets a lot of old stains out. Good luck. Joan in CT ... View related article.
