RE: Rooting a Crepe Myrtle
I believe you can also lay a lower branch with an off-shoot, on the ground, place a rock or something heavy on it to keep it in contact with the soil. By next spring, you should have a new plant. Most woody plants/shrubs will work this way. ... View related article.

If the film is on the inside, try denture cleaning tabs. ... View related article.

RE: Making Patio Umbrella into Half Umbrella
I made a new umbrella from a frame and round tableclothe from a thrift store. I believe you could cut the fabric up one side. Decide which spokes you want to use, cut the others close to the top (so you don't lose the cranking mechanism). Trim the fabric from the top, again leaving some to cover the crown, and leave enough to fold under the last spoke you are keeping on either side. Using fabric glue, or needle and heavy thread, to secure the fabric around the spoke. Hint: clothes pins or bag clamps will help hold the fabric while you secure it. Let us know how it works for you. You can contact me if more info needed. I love clever thrifty thinkers! ... View related article.

RE: Scratch and Dent Appliance Stores
I know Sears has Scratch and Dent stores but not sure where they are. I would think most big stores have a similar store. Look online and/or call the service depts. Also ask local dealers what they do with their damaged products. ... View related article.

RE: Removing Spray Paint from Copper
You can try paint thinner, or Krud Kutter is great for cleaning and will remove most paint (so don't use it for cleaning anything with paint that you don't want the paint to come off!). I purchase it from Lowe's but have seen it in other stores. Good luck. ... View related article.

RE: Painting the Inside of a Lampshade
How about decoupaging pretty tissue paper, wrapping paper or fabric to the inside of the shade. It is safe to use paper as long as your bulb is not too bright/hot. I've made shades from wall paper with out a problem. Good luck ... View related article.

RE: Overwintering Calla Lilies
I don't see where you live, however, I live in central VA-zone 7. I have calla lilies which have come back over the last 8-10 years. They say they are not hardy to zone 7 but mine are in a front flower bed facing west. I believe it is because that is the warmest bed with the sun hitting the bed the most year round. Love them! Good luck. ... View related article.

RE: Orange Flowers Along Kentucky Highway
They could also be what I've called Jewel weed. Look something like sedum. I stopped and dug some in VA but not sure if it's legal in Kentucky to dig wild flowers. They have long roots so get as much root as you can. Good luck (try the back roads with less traffic). ... View related article.

RE: Reusing Gallon-Size Glass Jars
My first thought was to use them as a cloche'. I root some plants and use cloche's to act as a greenhouse. Love the other ideas too. ... View related article.

RE: Growing Ben Franklin Trees from Seeds
Sorry I should have explained. A Ben Franklin tree is a small version of a Magnolia. Has similar blooms but fall foliage is red/orange. Lovely tree! Thanks for the inquiry. ... View related article.
