RE: Subtract Savings First
I tried rounding up amounts in my checkbook but it drove me crazy when I tried to balance. If I'm off it's a lot of trouble balancing when rounding up. I do all my banking online so I have a dollar amount transferred from checking to saving every week. But with this economy it seems I'm constantly having to go online and transfer monies back to checking. I'm able to save with online transfers but it's frustrating when I have to go into saving. I have to help out my daughter for medical as she has no insurance so this is a necessity. ... View related article.

RE: Lower Your Water Heater Temperature
I, too, am not sure it's worth the saving. I turned mine down but now I have to run the water so long when I need hot water for a shower or just washing out one greasy pot. Water in my are is very expensive. Last month my water bill was higher than my electric bill. ... View related article.

RE: Surviving Family Thanksgiving
Your certainly have gotten a lot of feedback. Just realize that most of us have been in your shoes. When I was younger I'd try to please everyone. As I've gotten older I refuse to put up with all the drama. Tell everyone dinner is served at such a such time and everyone is welcome. Set you own rules and don't back down. You need to set the ground or you will have this problem every holiday, birthday, birth of a child and God knows what else. When you set your own rules and stand by them, they may not like it but they will respect you in the long run.

I used to go all out and everyone would wait up for dinner until my sister and her family showed up hours later. This same sister has burned numerous holes in my carpet with her smoking. I finally told her we're eating at a certain time and when her family finally got there the rest of us were on desert. She pouted for years when I finally told her and her hubby they'd have to smoke outside. But I'm no longer seen as someone's doormat.

Please don't let this fester. For years my holidays were dreaded and I was a basket case trying to please everyone and his brother. You cannot please both your Mother and your Mother-In-Law. Invite them both and whether they enjoy and get along or not is there problem not yours. And I have learned that holidays with extended families and in-laws are not all they're cracked up to be. The best times will be with your hubby and your future children so don't let anyone spoil that for you. ... View related article.

RE: Buy at Garage Sales and Make Money
For the person(s) criticizing... what do you think businesses do? They buy low and sell at a profit. This is a business transaction and those people buying low and selling on e-bay or elsewhere are just trying to may a living like everyone else. To me it's no different that negotiating for purchases which is smart and frugal. Something I do on a regular basis. ... View related article.

RE: Suggestions for White Hair Other Than Dyeing
Nothing wrong with a little hair color, a little makeup to highlight ones features and some age appropriate clothes. I may be in my 60ies girls but I'm not dead yet. White hair is beautiful on some but I'm not one of them; it makes me look washed out and tired. I won't be scheduling any cosmetic surgery; just a little highlights. ... View related article.

RE: Winter Warmth Tips
Personally I would never put an electric blanket anywhere near my dog. He sucks on his special blanket every night when he goes to sleep but you never know when one may decide to chew on the electric blanket. I just don't think this is a good idea. But Cricketnc has some other very good tips. Thank You Cricketnc! ... View related article.
