| RE: Trouble House Training My Chihuahua |
|
Chihuahua's can be very difficult to housetrain. As suggested, a crate is really the only method to make this 100% successful, as well as neutering if he isn't already. An uneutered male is going to mark to stake out his territory and the longer it is allowed to go on, the less success you are going to have stopping it. Male doggie diapers or pee pee bands can help, but the other two should be done first. ... View related article. |

| RE: Liquid Fabric Softener vs. Dryer Sheets |
|
We had 3 different dryer repair people recommend NOT using the dryer sheets. Overtime, there is a build up on the drum where the clothers are and it can cause issues with the dryer, as well as marks on light clothes. We have not had any issues since we switched to liquid softner, so there must be some truth to it. ... View related article. |

| RE: Keeping Dogs from Peeing on the Floor |
|
As far as clenaing goes, vinegar and water is an all natural cleaning agent to remove urine smells. Nothing though is really going to deter dogs with ingrained house soiling behavior. If possible, I'd get rid of the carpet and put down some inexpensive tile that is cleanable in a smaller area of the house and confine the dogs to that area. That or get crates and confine the dogs and do a retraining on their housetraining. Having urine on the carpet isn't a healthy situation for anyone!!! ... View related article. |

| RE: Dog Loves Cat Food |
|
Every dog loves cat food! However, cat food is formulated for the vitamin and nutrient needs of cats, not dogs. Your dog really needs to eat dog food to ensure that his health is maintained and the protein requirements are in the correct range. Cat food tends to be very high in protein which can cause kidney issues, as well as increased risk for Pancreatitis. Not to mention the excess in calories!! Most Doxies battle weight issues, so cat food can only increase the problems. ... View related article. |

| RE: American Bulldog Puppy is Scared of Everything |
|
I'd suggest getting your dog in a training class right away. You need a class that has puppy play and socialization, as well as formal obedience. This guy sounds like he needs confidence boosting, so a class using positive reinforcement is a MUST. You don't say how long you have had the dog, but you need to try and make up some ground QUICKLY!! Start slowly and start doing things that are not too overwelming. Teach the pup to sit on your lap and jump slowly pet and massage him while talking softly. Use small food treats to make the experience a positive one. Small sessions several times a day are best and never force him to do anything. You want his experiences to be positive and confidence boosting, not scary and overwhelming which will make the problem worse. Does he walk happily on a leash? If not work on getting him to walk on the leash using the food treats as a reward. Avoid any harsh words or stearn tones and instead use a happy upbeat praising voice. Once you get into the class you might be suprised at his improvements! I'm sure the trainer can offer helpful suggestions to help him. I would also contact the breeder and ask some questions. Are other pups having this problem? The breeder needs to know to better understand their breeding program. Goodluck! ... View related article. |

The puppy should have been kept with the rest of the liter until AT LEAST 8 weeks of age. Havng said that, your pup needs to be seen by a vet right away. Many products and chemicals CANNOT be used on puppies and kittens, So PLEASE consult a vet before you use ANYTHING on a puppy so young. Once you do find out what the "bug" is, please tell the litter owner's so that they can ge treatment started for the other pups in the litter. ... View related article. |

| RE: Does a Dog Door Help or Hurt When Potty Training a Puppy? |
Dog doors are great except that they do not teach a dog to hold their bowel and bladder. They essentially give 24 hour access to the outdoors for whenever the call of nature arises. To REALLY housetrain a pet it needs to learn to hold bowel and bladder until it is given access to the area approprite for elimination. The only way to do this is by confining the puppy and getting it on a strict schedule of trips outside. Please don't wait for the dog to tell you when it has to go. Many people make this mistake and in essence set themselves up for failure. What happens when the dog has to go potty and no one is home? Is the dog wrong to give the I need to go signal and then has an accident because no one if home to see it? Avoid the waiting for a signal and get the dog in the habit of waiting to go until it is given access to the out of doors. By using a schedule for meals and potty trips, your pup will catch on very fast to the program and I'm sure will do well at learning to "hold it". Once that is accomplished, by all means go back to using the door safe in the knowledge that the dog can hold it for longer if need be.
