i agree with the point about not really needing a liner. for wet messy stuff, i use large coffee cans, ice cream containers, mayonnaise jars, most any sizable container with lid...helps keep the smells down too. meat wrappings and larger items can be placed inside an empty cereal or other box. (just don't let wastebasket get too full where it becomes difficult to dump without a mess.)
approx. 1/2 c. salt in cold water wash cycle. this step can be repeated as an added safeguard if dark or vibrant colors are used.
here's another tip that i've used: put white vinegar & water (50/50) in your steam iron turn garment inside out and steam press thoroughly place garment in dryer to finish
*be sure to run an extra cycle to ensure dye residue doesn't remain in your washer & ruin the next load *try placing freshly dyed items in an old pillowcase in the dryer the first time
during regular wear, i find it helps prevent fading to launder darks & dyed garments inside out (in cold water)
i don't usually buy 1000 island dressing, here's an easy substitute: mayo, ketchup and sweet relish. if you're feeling extra adventurous, add a couple drops of lemon juice, couple drops of worcestershire, a little brown sugar...

8 average sized potatoes 1 large onion 1/4 cup of butter 1 Tbs. salt pepper to taste 2 cans of salmon (cleaned) 1 can evaporated milk (Pet brand) 1 cup ketchup (optional) Tabasco sauce to taste (optional) Fat free saltines or oyster crackers
Preparation: Peel and dice potatoes and onions. In 8 quart pot fill to half with water add salt, pepper, butter, potatoes and onions. Boil for about 25 minutes stirring some, turn off heat and add salmon, ketchup, Tabasco and milk last, stirring to blend. Get out your favorite bowl, add crackers and stew, eat.
