RE: Thrifty and Green Liners for Wastebaskets
i agree with the point about not really needing a liner.
for wet messy stuff, i use large coffee cans, ice cream containers, mayonnaise jars, most any sizable container with lid...helps keep the smells down too. meat wrappings and larger items can be placed inside an empty cereal or other box. (just don't let wastebasket get too full where it becomes difficult to dump without a mess.)

RE: School Fundraising Discussion
Agreed, $15K is a ridiculous amount. do they come with a guarantee? total funds raised or your $$$ back? lol.

here's a link to a grant program being run by Hamburger Helper http://www.myhometownhelper.com/

hope things work out without too much drama, i know exactly what you're talking about. ... View related article.

RE: Setting the Dye When Making Tie-dye Clothing
approx. 1/2 c. salt in cold water wash cycle.
this step can be repeated as an added safeguard if dark or vibrant colors are used.

here's another tip that i've used:
put white vinegar & water (50/50) in your steam iron
turn garment inside out and steam press thoroughly
place garment in dryer to finish

*be sure to run an extra cycle to ensure dye residue doesn't remain in your washer & ruin the next load
*try placing freshly dyed items in an old pillowcase in the dryer the first time

during regular wear, i find it helps prevent fading to launder darks & dyed garments inside out (in cold water)

lastly, depending on fabric type, there are some good commercial products available.

RE: What is the sauce on big mac?
i don't usually buy 1000 island dressing, here's an easy substitute:
mayo, ketchup and sweet relish.
if you're feeling extra adventurous, add a couple drops of lemon juice, couple drops of worcestershire, a little brown sugar...

RE: Recipes Using Canned Salmon
Salmon Stew

Serving Size: 8 to 10
Preparation Time: about 30 minutes

8 average sized potatoes
1 large onion
1/4 cup of butter
1 Tbs. salt
pepper to taste
2 cans of salmon (cleaned)
1 can evaporated milk (Pet brand)
1 cup ketchup (optional)
Tabasco sauce to taste (optional)
Fat free saltines or oyster crackers

Preparation:
Peel and dice potatoes and onions. In 8 quart pot fill to half with water add salt, pepper, butter, potatoes and onions. Boil for about 25 minutes stirring some, turn off heat and add salmon, ketchup, Tabasco and milk last, stirring to blend. Get out your favorite bowl, add crackers and stew, eat.

*Variations:
~my mom lightly sauteed the salmon & chopped onion in a bit of butter before adding them to the stew pot.
~you can omit the ketchup & tabasco entirely, and the potatoes too if you like. personally, i prefer it without the ketchup. ... View related article.
