| RE: Finnish Michigan Pasty Recipe |
I just made a big batch for some Finnish friends whose ancestry hails from the Ironwood, MI/Hurley, WI area. They were deemed, "Just like Grandma's!" A compliment doesn't get any better than that! http://www.flickr.com/photos/jackieinmi/2411137472/ ... View related article. |

| RE: Store More With Freezer Bags |
I also do the same thing, but make sure the contents are cool before you add them to the bag. I had a soup that was not cool when I added it to the bag and the seam/edge popped and I had a nice little mess to clean up. I am not sure if it was the hot liquid or the bag integrity, but I do not want to repeat the experiment to find out!
I also feeze tomato sauce (canned) in freezer bags if I only need a small amount and have a big can of it. I do the same thing with canned chipotle peppers in adobo sauce. I only want ONE to flavor my chili so I just break one off the hunk in the baggie and pop the rest back in the freezer. I use bags FAR more often than I do anything else for freezing. ... | RE: Gourmet "To Go" Coffee at Home |
|
As an add-on. The coffee shop near my house uses their leftover coffee to make coffee ice cubes. Bloody brilliance in it's simplicity! I now have a paper bag (plastic makes a big ice lump) filled with coffee cubes in my freezer and make my own iced coffee as well. I use fat free half-and-half and sugar free chocolate syrup. Yum! ... | RE: Vintage Apron Pattern |
I have one that sounds exactly like what you are talking about. It was my grandmother's and I laid it down on newspaper and traced it and cut out the pattern. I sewed it all together and it truly looks just like Grandma's. You could definitely buy a pattern, but check to see if you have any friends who might have what you like or go to an antique store and see if you can find one you think is similar and try the trace/cut/sew method. Mine looks somewhat like this:

I do the exact same thing! I roast them in an oven with garlic, olive oil and salt. Roast them until they start to turn brown and are very soft. They are delicious and my 8 year old son actually asks for garlicky sprouts! ... View related article. |

| RE: Recipe For Tomato Sauce Using Garden Tomatoes |
|
I slice tomatoes into 1/4 slices and add a drizzle of olive oil, kosher salt, lots of garlic and basil and oregano. I put them in a low oven on a baking sheet for several hours until the tomatoes start to shrivel up and soften. When they have roasted and are somewhat brown and definitely shrivelly, whiz them up in a food processor and serve over pasta. It's really good and a nice way to use up excess tomatoes! ... | RE: Oil Cleansing Method For Facial Cleanser |
|
I was actually really afraid to try this when I first heard of it. I have combination skin and it is sensitive and actually I have upped my ratio to 50:50. The link explains it far better than I ever could, but I also heard people having the same problem I did. I was told by a naturopathic doctor that the skin was just getting acclimated and purging toxins during the breakout period and one should just forge through and continue using the OCM. However, I completely understand the desire to be pimple-free! This may not work for all and for the ones who do find benefits, yippee! I have liked it very much so far. And I bleach the heck out of my towels using hot, hot, hot water, sheets too. ... View related article. |

| RE: Makeup for Large Pores |
I just posted on someone else's comments that a primer helps make up stay in place, but it can also help minimize pores. In my effort to stay frugal, I bypass Smashbox and Urban Decay primers and instead use Monistat Chafing Gel. This does help minimize pores and it costs 1/3 of the price of high end primers.
