RE: School Fundraising in a Rural Community
Our local band is raising funds in order to perform in the Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade. They have had a rummage sale, and a bake sale, and they sell food at the sports events.
I don't know if these ideas would work for your small community. Perhaps you could have someone from the chorus take digital photos of your chorus performing and then the parents/grandparents could pay for pics of their child.
Good Luck! ... View related article.

RE: Yellow Tomato Jam Recipe
From a 1943 cookbook:
RIPE TOMATO JAM
4 pounds medium ripe tomatoes
4 cups sugar
1 teaspoon whole cloves
1/2 tablespoon broken stick cinnamon
2 cups vinegar
1/2 teaspoon whole allspice

Scald, peel, and quarter tomatoes. Place in preserving kettle. Add sugar, vinegar, cloves, allspice, and cinnamon. The spices may be tied in a loose muslin bag. Simmer, stirring frequently, until thick. (from Florence Taft Eaton, Concord, Mass.) ... View related article.

RE: Dealing With The Grief After Losing a Pet
I lost my dog of over 15 years, Bucky, not too long ago. I, too know that there will never be another. And I have had trouble making an attachment to any other pets.
Perhaps you could make a remembrance book of your pet. Also, I find that just talking about Bucky and remembering the good times helps.
My condolences on your loss. I hope that time will help heal your sadness. Sincerely, AnnMel ... View related article.

RE: Save Energy While Keeping Your Cool
Some people open the windows during part of the day, then close up the house and start the AC.
We were told by our AC tech that this actually uses MORE energy to remove the humidity thereby costing more in electricity bills.
It is better to keep the house at a constant temp without letting in humidity. ... View related article.

RE: Uses for Empty Tic Tac Containers
These are good ideas. However, in our state, if you are in a vehicle carrying prescription drugs in containers other than the original bottle, you can be arrested for transporting drugs.
Possibly, acetaminophen or ibuprofen could be carried in pocket or purse using tic-tac containers. ... View related article.

RE: Chigger Bites
I use bleach, too. Except I just put a little on some cotton swabs, full strength, and touch the swab to the place where the chigger is. Voilla! no more itching!!!
This would not be a good idea if they were to be anywhere near the face, but I have never had any chiggers camp out there anyway. :) ... View related article.

RE: Encouraging Children to Not Wear Shoes
People may have thrown down cigarette butts that are still burning, they may urinate on the floor tiles of a public restroom (or there may be other bodily fluids in public areas), also, drug users may have dropped needles in public areas.
At home, I know what my child is stepping in, ... anywhere else, it is anyone's guess.
I don't know if your country's laws mention this, but here, in the US, in my city, there are many signs posted on restaurants, grocery stores and other establishments that say, "NO SHIRT, NO SHOES, NO SERVICE". This is a public health and safety matter. ... View related article.
