Okay, I'm what you might call semi-savvy where computers are concerned. And bear in mind, I'm on a Windows XP machine. First, I'd recommend backing up all your documents and pictures. I have a "flash drive," aka a "jump drive" or "thumb drive. I simply open my My Documents folder and copy and paste everything in it. I know how many items should be in that folder; if the number isn't right (say, 16 instead of 15 items,) I check it out and delete if necessary.
As an alternative to the original suggestion, you could also do a search for files ending in .tmp. When the list comes up, begin highlighting and deleting. Don't forget to make a note of the time you got your important files backed up and started deleting stuff, in case you need to do a system restore. Might save losing important files. ...
