RE: Store Extra Bags in Bottom of the Trash Bin
I used to do this in the kitchen but one time the bag got a hole in it and yucky stuff got through. I had to wash a large roll of garbage bags and they were still sticky when I unwound them. So I don't do this anymore. Sometimes I will lay one or two across the top rim so they hang off the back and put the bag over them that way. I do keep the extra bags in the bathrooms this way though. ... View related article.

RE: Emergency Preparedness
I, too, prefer to be proactive about these situations. I get some funny looks from some friends and family but I don't care. I would rather them think I am being paranoid then be unprepared.
Go to www.ready.gov/america/getakit/index.html it gives you a basic supply list that you can work off of. Such as 1 gallon of water per person per day for three days. I also typed in "disaster preparedness" and looked at kits for sale to see what was in them to give me some more ideas to personalize my own supply. Also, make copies of your important papers and put them in a ziploc bag. I also have instructions on how to purify water in my kit so I remember how - just in case the water supply runs out. (You can also buy purification tablets at the camping supply stores) I have also been thinking of gathering some camp recipes to put in there, such as how to make an easy flat bread with minimal ingredients. And most of all - Don't forget to put in the can opener! ... View related article.

RE: Saving Money On School Supplies
Check with your city. In Tacoma, WA I have seen them sponsor an event where children with families who can't afford the supplies can come and get them for free or minimal cost. I didn't pay too much attention at the time but my friend makes use of the program. I think it is sponsored by the program that also offers free lunches to kids during the summer. Doesn't hurt to check it out. ... View related article.

RE: Refrigerator Door Does Not Close Properly
Look around the fridge and see how the doors attach. Try to tighten the screws that hold it on. I also had a fridge that one door was off center but we put a wedge under the side that it was off and that actually helped because it wasn't level so wouldn't shut properly. ... View related article.

RE: Crafts Made With Wine Corks
I was at the craft mall the other day and someone had taken a tray and glued the corks (sideways) across to make a pretty little display. I bet you could use it to serve with or put it on the wall for a message center like mentioned above. Also, If you really love the corks, try arranging them in a shadow box and create a great work of art. Maybe decorate with some miniature wine bottles and glasses around the bottom. Fun! I don't drink wine so I am never able to collect enough corks to create anything like this. Have fun! ... View related article.

RE: Litter Box Training
I took my kittens away from their feral mother when they were three or four weeks old. I had 5 total so you can imagine the chaos of caring for 5 kittens that are still incredibly dependant. I always kept the litter box nearby and as soon as they were done feeding, I put them in the litterbox and moved their feet around to show them what to do. (At first they were eating the litter but I always kept an eye on them and removed it from their mouths.) I also rubbed their back right above their tail with a damp washcloth. That is how the mama kitty stimulates them to use the potty. This seemed to work as they do not have any problems with it anymore. So try sticking them in the box as soon as they are done eating and "show" them what to do. I also like the idea of multiple boxes that you move closer together. I kept all those kitties for 3 months, had them fixed and found them loving homes. I even got to keep 2! ... View related article.

RE: Use Recycled Plastic Bag As A "Glove"
I was taking chicken off the bone yesterday and watching tv, so I put the remote into a bread bag to protect it in case I wanted to use it. Worked and it stayed clean! Hubby gave me a funny look though :o) ... View related article.

RE: Using Leftover Wax from Scented Candles
You can buy new wicks from the craft store and melt the candle wax down to make new candles. Sometimes I save the little holder the tea light candles come in and reuse them to make new candles that way. New wicks are nice if you want to give the candles as a gift. I would suggest hitting the thrift store and buying and old sauce pan and measuring cup to use just for candles, too. ... View related article.

RE: Keep Kids Busy With Summer Movies
I was surprised to learn how many people didn't know you could borrow movies from your library! And our library system offers an online service that you can find movies (and books) from anywhere in their system and have them shipped to the closest branch for pickup. So we don't have to travel to a different library for a different selection!

Also, check out your local theaters. Here in Tacoma, WA I know of a major theater that offers free movies for kids on Tuesdays at 10am! Can't beat that price! ... View related article.

RE: Selling "Magic the Gathering" Cards
I sold all of my son's cards on Craigslist. Go to the craigslist.org and click "post to classifieds" then follow the directions. Be sure to choose the correct area that you are in. I am WA too and I sold my son's cards for a great price. Try checking out craiglist before you sell and you can get an idea of what people are selling them for or maybe you can even find a buyer instead of having to post an ad. Pretty easy, just beware of people who may try to scam you with checks and such. I try to meet in person in a public place and take cash only. Good luck! PS. If you can, post pictures with your ads! ... View related article.
