RE: Persistent Feminine Itching
Hard Questions: Are you an adult who has been a victim of childhood sexual abuse? Is it possible for you to talk with a counselor or therapist? If this question doesn't apply to you, please don't be offended. If it does, please find a listening ear who can advise you.
One bath a day is plenty. You are probably washing away natural oils that keep the area healthy.

You may be using water that is too hot.

RE: Buying My Kids a Dog
Jack Russells are extremely busy, active dogs with minds of their own. Good Labs are great family dogs with generally even temperment and don't panic at every little thing. They stay young and silly but after a year or so you have a fantastic dog. No, I'm not a lab person. I have GSD's

Go on-line to American Kennel Club (AKC) to find breed info, temperment, life-span, suitability, trainability, grooming needs, and health concerns of different breeds.

Personally, I would not adopt a rescue dog for young children, due to possible past treatment of the dog and unknown behavior issues. Especially since your family sounds inexperienced. Rescues are great for older kids and adults. I know I will take a slam for this position, but the welfare of young children takes priority.

A 7-9 week old puppy is your best bet. Even though it's lots of work. The age window of 8 to 16 weeks is the most important time in a dog's development. This is when they learn what the world is all about, and what their place is in it.

Research training, I cannot stress that strongly enough. There are some great books, T.V. shows, tapes, DVD's. Cesar Milan comes to mind, also the Monks of New Skete.

Also research breeds to see what fits in your family style. If you buy from a breeder, make sure dam is on site. See her with visitors, and when her puppies are near. Is she open, friendly, secure. Or is she snarky and uncomfortable.

Don't pay big bucks for a designer dog. The mixes haven't been around long enough to see how they develop. A lab/poodle mix may not have all the positive traits we associate with those dogs. The litter might have inherited the problems.

Talk with dog owner friends and research, research, research.

Most dogs end up in shelters because of behavior problems due to owners who will not take time to raise their pup properly. This is a family member you are adopting. The years of rewards your family will enjoy will more than make up for the initial research and training.

By the time your new puppy loses that wonderful puppy smell, you will adore your new family member. If you decide on a small dog make sure you train appropriately. Without training they become little dictators.

P.S. Go on line to find "Puppy Temperment Test", print and take with you to select your puppy. Sorry I have many copies, but no link and no scanner. ... View related article.

RE: Getting Rid Of Pledge Smell From Dresser
Try hotish water and a little New Dawn liquid. Leave rag as wet as you think the wood will take without damage or wring rag almost dry. Working quickly, wipe where you put the Pledge. Wipe with a clean rag wrung from warm water to quickly rinse. Dry with a soft clean cloth. Repeat until you have removed the Pledge product. Wood furniture can be safely cleaned with soap and water if the joints aren't soaked.

Finish up with a Pledge-like wood furniture product that you have used without issues,. Good Luck. ... View related article.

RE: Getting Puppy To Wear A Harness
Get some little dog treats and treat him when you put on the collar. Find something he loves and be generous. Keep that collar on at all times. He should never be without it. Use a flat woven or good leather collar that fits well. Leave it on at all times making sure it is not too loose and will slip over his head. You should be able to insert two fingers-- just comfortably. Check size often as pups grow fast. Cut off excess if collar is too long and bugging puppy. Replace with larger collar as needed.

Never leave on a training collar (a chain collar) as they can catch on stuff resulting in strangulation.

Please do not let your dog ever be without his collar. Just yesterday a young Dalmation wondered up on my porch. Just a pup really. Silly and agitated. She had a little blood smeared on her head. She was sweet and willing to let me leash her. Thankfully she had a collar and tags and I was able to call her vet. They contacted the owner and a frantic young mother and family re-united with their 8 month-old puppy.

After you put on the collar, start with the harness and treat each time you put the harness over his head. Then treat and praise. Harness or not, puppy should always wear his collar. Really, as you continue to harness train puppy will forget about his collar. ... View related article.

RE: Baby Shower Diaper-Shaped Nut Cups
I remember pink and blue flannel, cut in triangles and dipped in wax or paraffin. They were formed into diapers that sat up, like a baby was sitting in them. They were always pinned in front with a little gold pin. ... View related article.

RE: Problems With Finish On Hardwood Floors
Wow. Some of those "glo"products are not supposed to be used on hardwood floors. Contact customer service at the Armstrong Co. to see what is wrong. Then go back to your guy who did the one room and tell him to fix it. It may have to be stripped and re-sanded, then re-finished.

We had our old hardwood floors refinished and were told by the re-finisher that if we ever used Murphy's Wood Soap that we would have to re-sand.

I clean my lovely old hardwood with a LITTLE bit of vinegar in warm water and just mop. ... View related article.

RE: Getting A Skunk Out Of A Shed
I have read that loud heavy metal or head-bang rock music will run animals off. Take your CD player out on an extension cord, borrow a neighbor kid's CD and blast away.

Animals will just leave. The animal I read about was a skunk and it just left. No spray or anything to leave a smell. ... View related article.

RE: Table Favors for 200+ Wedding Guests
Any of the candies suggested would be great. You could also use Jordan Almonds or jelly beans. They could be presented in crinkled black candy (or cupcake) papers.

You could buy or cut circles of tulle, put a tablespoon or two of candies on top and tie with thin pink, white or black ribbon. Working together, a friend and I did 250 in one evening.
Note: You can cut many layers of tulle at once. ... View related article.
