RE: Using Vinegar in the Laundry
Note: You don't have to buy a name brand of vinegar. Buy the cheapest kind you can find. I buy it in a large container. The smell of vinegar after the laundry is finished will be faint and goes away quickly. Vinegar softens towels really well and then they are much more absorbant. Also it disinfects them. Vinegar and baking soda are such wonderful household helpers and so cheap! ... View related article.

RE: Looking for Ground Beef Recipes
Debbie's Skillet Meat Loaf With Gravy

1 pound ground chuck
1 egg, slightly beaten
1 small onion, diced fine
1/2 cup seasoned bread crumbs
1/2 cup oatmeal
2 dashes Worcestershire sauce
1/4 cup ketchup (or a bit less)
1 squirt prepared mustard
1 10 1/4 oz Campbell's Beef Gravy

Mix all ingredients except gravy. Form into 7 or so round patties and brown real well on both sides in large skillet. (can add shortening if needed) Once they are nicely browned on both sides, drain grease. Add gravy over tops of patties, cover and simmer for 20 minutes.

Basically I took my meat loaf recipe and made stove top. Not only is it quicker but it doesn't heat up the kitchen then, not having to turn on the oven! The gravy gets even tastier when it is simmering along with the patties. We like mashed potatoes and peas with it. Yum!

Possible variations: could use crushed crackers or even torn up bread, chili sauce, steak sauce. Add some sauteed mushrooms to the gravy, even fried onions. Might try flouring the patties before frying or coating with some more bread crumbs. Could add some diced green pepper. Many possibilities. ... View related article.

RE: Uses for Parmesan Cheese Containers
I keep one of these containers full of baking soda for at my kitchen sink. It does an excellent job of cleaning, deodorizing and polishing my stainless steel sink and it's cheap and non-toxic. ... View related article.

RE: Cleaning With Baking Soda
I wanted to add that this post made me remember that I had saved and washed a plastic parmesan cheese container with the dual opening lid. I filled it with baking soda and now keep under the sink. It is just wonderful to spinkle in wetted down stainless steel sink, let sit a while and then wipe and rinse. it makes it so sparkly and clean and deodorizes too and I'm sure it helps the drains too! ... RE: Keep Your ID Separate For Safety
Best to be on the safe side and you can never be too safe! I was unfortunate and was robbed twice and learned the hard way about carrying too much with me. Everything worked out in the end but it was still scary. I carry as little as possible. It is not good to carry a lot of credit cards. Also, I laid what few cards and ID I carry on my scanner and made a copy so I have in a safe place in the event I should be robbed again. Here's some advice, don't hang your purse over your chair at a restaurant and don't leave your purse in your vehicle even if you think it's hidden! ... View related article.

RE: When Do You Stop Giving Christmas Gifts to Adult Nieces and Nephews?
There really isn't a rule about it. Just do what your heart or your head tells you to. We were childless for many years and then adopted 2 beautiful toddlers as older parents. We'd given and given to so many nieces and nephews on both sides and then decided they were all old enough we shouldn't do anymore. I stopped with birthday gifts when they each turned 18. It's funny that no one has seen fit to give to our kids the way we did to theirs but really it doesn't matter. I'm so happy to have kids to buy for and now just focus on them.

Do you feel pressure to keep giving to nieces/nephews? Really you shouldn't and it should be something you want to do, rather than feel it is expected. Do they do anything in return. At least write a thank-you or email or give you a call to show their appreciation. That's part of it as well because I know I got angry when I didn't even have my cards with money acknowledged! ... RE: Smoke Odors in My Apartment from Neighbors
How disrespectful these people are being. They probably will not change their ways at all unless they are made to. It's too bad some people think only of themselves! I feel bad for you that you are put in this position. I always hesitate to complain about a neighbor because you just don't know who you are dealing with and will they try to get even with you. Still, I think you should report them to the manager and let him take care of it. I don't see why you should have to tell them their business. If it's a no-smoking complex they are in violation. Maybe they smoke outside so as to not stink up their own place as they know it really smells bad. ... View related article.
