If you had enough people you could have a Team Jacob/Team Edward game time, whether it would be baseball game or some other game.

You could watch the Twilight Movie.
You could serve non-alcoholic red punch in plastic wine glasses. Red velvet cake. You could have Italian food-like Edwards family tried to feed Bella: Pizza, salad, bread sticks or lasagna, salad, bread sticks.

Since the twilight book has apple on the front, you could have a bowl of apples as a centerpiece for your table. New moon has parrot tulips, so you could check the fake flower isle at Walmart or such. If you have the books or could borrow, you could set up a mantel with the books. A fog machine would be cool.
Of course for music the Twilight sound track (I'm sure one of your friends has it if you don't)
If the birthday is after Halloween, hit Halloween clearances for vampire inspiration.

We always went by the rule of thumb to have only as many kids as they are old. So at 6 years, only have 6 kids. And that being said, should help you should parents be unavailable for help. If he likes playing army, then have a army birthday. Kids could dress in camouflage.

You could get a tube of window caulk and make sure to seal around the window insides that may be leaking. Also, you could use old quilts (if you don't have them a thrift shop like goodwill or salvation army would), cut them up to the size of the window and you could stitch them nicely and use velcro strips on both quilt and the inside of the window inside the framing of the window, that way you can take them down when desired and put them up next year-and also that will give you room to hang thermal curtains in front of them.
