Profile For Carol L. - CarolL.'s Profile

I like to garden. I grow tomatoes, peppers, mini-pumpkins, and sometimes I will try something like green beans, beets, and I want to try scallions or green onions. I have over 20 years of gardening experience. I am currently learning to go more "green" with my gardening. I currently use commercial fertilizer and water-soluble fertilizer, but I do not use any pesticides or fungicides.

I am married.

I also love dogs. I started caring for dogs when I was a little girl. My dogs are so good, that people started threatening to steal them. One time someone did steal one of my dogs. I found her and brought her back home. I am not a breeder, Veterinarian, Vet Asst., I just love dogs. When I was little, my dad knew a married couple who had a female dog that got pregnant. They couldn't handle it, and my dad knew I could. I took care of the female and her puppies, and I found homes for all of the puppies. Then the female went back to her owners. Later on, I had a dog who had a litter, and I took care of all of them until they were adopted out. Yet, my parent's kept giving my dogs away. I had several. I even "shared" a dog.

I'm all grown up now--and middle aged. I have dogs now, too. I don't "circus train" my dogs, but I do take very good care of them. I have been with the same Vet for well over 10 years now. I have never had to call them often, but when I do, they are there for me and my dogs.

I'm not rich or fancy. I'm just me with my dogs; and in the spring/summertime I garden.

I will share my beloved, beautiful, precious, Munchkin with you in 2 photos. Fate brought her to me, and I cared for her until her death at 6:40 am Eastern Standard Time on September 18, 2008. The fleece throws in the photos are because my Vet Asst. told me that Munchkin, being such a small dog, is a "burrowing" type of dog. I had to move the fleece throws so I could get photos of her.

RE: Cleaning Stuck Food off Cookware
I add about 1/8 to 1/4 inch of water, and simmer or boil on the stove for a few minutes, until the bits are soft, then scrap with a plastic pancake turner. Drain everything out, let the pot or pan cool, then wash as usual. ... View related article.

RE: Will Mayonnaise Kill Fleas on Pets?
I just talked to Vets, and they said they recommend Frontline, that is now available in all of the stores, and doesn't require any type of washing. However, I truly would try something like a mayonnaise or oil wash, then use something like Frontline, or Advantage.

A couple of years ago, we found a dog that really needed help, and the first night, I used the regular dog shampoo on her, then the next day, I realized it wasn't enough, so I saturated her and her coat with oil, and then rewashed her with a regular shampoo. Mayonnaise may have done the trick as well. What it really means is saturating the fleas and ticks so they can't fly anymore, and mayonnaise may do that as well as oil can.

Then, the pets have to go to the vet. Saturating the pet in mayonaise or oil is really just to keep the other pets from getting infested, and to stop the initial infestation, then cleaning them up by taking them to the Vet, Now that Frontline is on the market OTC, I don't know what to say. ... RE: Will Mayonnaise Kill Fleas on Pets?
I wouldn't be against trying mayonnaise on pets. Anything that causes the fleas to stop flying or breeding, or crawling around, but then I would definitely want to wash off all of the mayonnaise, and make my pet happy again. You may be on to something! ... View related article.

RE: Raising a Chi-pin (Chihuahua/Miniature Pinscher
I don't know, but that photo is adorable. We have two toy fox terriers that weigh about 7 or 8 pds. total, and they are as cute as your dog. When we got them, they were about 6-8 weeks old, and weighed just under 2 pounds. ... View related article.

RE: Link: Seasonal and Swine Flu Information at Flu.gov
I'm not sure. Days after I had the regular flu shot, I started feeling sweaty, my armpits were really sweaty, and my head felt warm, but the next day, I felt better. I'm not a child. The same thing happened to my husband just before it happened to me, but he had his flu shot a couple of weeks before I got the flu shot. We are being really careful, shopping in stores, and my husband has been using the wipeclothes in the grocery stores on the shopping carts. We aren't sure if this is seasonal allergy or if we've had the swine flu, as it is affecting children more than adults. Obviously, we don't want to spread it, but we aren't even certain if we had it. ... View related article.

RE: 5 Quick Frugal Tips For Keeping Warm
Your tips are great, and I want to add one. You know how Wal-Mart has their throws on sale? Watch the sales, and go to Hobby Lobby, you can get them to cut you a throw without any sewing, for a little less price. Just ask HobbyLobby to cut you a piece about 70" long, or however long you want the piece.

Also, if you are snuggling in front of the tv, think of using the fleece diagonally. It covers your feet, and brings it all the way to the top of you, without a regular blanket. It's very warm.

Around Thanksgiving Weekend, Menards has a huge sale on very thin fleece blankets. They are great to use. I need them for my dogs, but they have a knit on them, so I cut the knit on the outerpart, and pull all of it out, cutting again if I need too, and I save the knit in a plastic bag for other projects. ... RE: Leaves are Free Fertilizer
God bless all of you, if I'm allowed to say that. You may just need to dig a huge hole in the garden area, and fill it full of leaves, and leave it to spring, then dig in, and see what dark, beautiful soil you have in the spring.

I'm looking to a much better garden season next year than we had this year, and I already have a tip; if the bees won't help, and I haven't done this yet, but I'm ready to, then take a clean paint brush, and brush it over all your plants in the spring/summer, so that you distribute the pollen to wherever it needs to go in the plant. ... RE: Standard Time - Fall Back This Sunday
I already get confused, why make it worse! I had to manually change a clock, and it stopped working, so I had to change the battery in it. We have a "smart alarm clock" that changes by itself, it changed time a week ago. Yesterday, I was tired, so I told my husband I was going to go in that room for an hour because it was already an hour behind. ... View related article.
