RE: Sharpening Dull Pins
I used to stick them into a bar of soap. That worked well too. ... View related article.

RE: Refrigerator Seals
I learned from an appliance repair man that to keep your refrigertor seals from cracking and have them last a very long time you should periodically coat them with a very thin layer of vasaline after cleaning. I took his advise. Not only is it keeping the seals in good shape it is also keeping the doors closed solidly against the refrigerator. Especially important in summer weather.. ... RE: Cleaning Window Tips
By accident I discovered a great way to clean the outside of my windows. My husband was washing the car using Blue Coral and and I wanted to wash the front porch windows and storm door so I dipped my sponge into his bucket. Swished the windows on the porch and rinsed them with the garden hose. I was going to dry them with a cloth but by the time I got to that they were dry and streak free. There was a nice breeze blowing that day and the sun wasn't shinning real bright. I guess conditions were perfect. I'm going to try that again this year. It made the job very easy, quick and effortless. It amazed me. ... View related article.

RE: Save Money on Fabric Softener
I use white vinegar in the rinse dispenser and the fabric dispenser of my washing machine. If I want a fragrence in any load I then throw one of the sponges into the dryer that I keep soaking in a container with fabric softener which I have diluted with water by 50%. Not an expensive alternative and works well. ... View related article.

RE: Dealing With Foot Odor From Work Boots
Before you purchase expensive foot powders, sprays, etc. try this. It worked wonders at our house expecially for my husband who worked construction and wore heavy boots. He too had a big problem from sweating. He began wearing only white socks to work and I sprinkled baking soda into his boots at night. It didn't take too many days for me to notice that the strong unpleasant odors were gone when he removed his boots. I used it also because I had the same problem when wearing nylons. It was a simple solution to a BIG problem for both of us. ... View related article.

RE: Cleaning Gold Rings
I worked in a jewelry store for a few years. Although we sold jewelry cleaners we cleaned all of our diamond wedding sets and fine jewelry that customers dropped off for cleaning with 1 part liquid Joy dish detergent and 1 part amonia. Soak jewelry in this for a few minutes, rinse thoroughly and dry with a soft cloth. They always came out beautiful. No scrubbing at all and no paste to get out of little cracks and crevices. Better than any cleaner I ever bought, OR SOLD. ... View related article.

RE: Recycling Plastic Lids
I use the plastic lids from Cool Whip etc. They are a great size to hold the pot holder coasters I make. Use the lid to round off the corners of old or stained pot holders. Then cover the round pot holders with material matching your decor and stitch back and forth across the material spacing your stitches so that it looks quilted. They make great coasters especially in summer when your glass usually sweats. The plastic lid then becomes a holder for the pot holder coaster. You will then have pretty coasters that doubly insure there will be no glass rings or water marks on your furniture. The coaster absorbs the drips and the plastic lid keeps a damp coaster from touching your furniture.

RE: Cleaning Farm Eggs
My parents raised chickens for several years and sold the eggs. So did my husband and I for a few years. There very very seldom was egg ever an egg that was dirty. As long as the chickens are provided with laying boxes padded with straw they will use those boxes and you should never have dirty eggs. If they are being allowed to deposit their eggs on the ground on a regular basis, that's another story. That was our experience when raising chickens. Over the years it was a rarity to ever find a dirty egg. For the rare egg that might have a little dirt spot it could easily be washed off with vinegar and used. ... View related article.

RE: Reusing Laundry Containers
I use plastic bottles and jugs with screw tops to collect used cooking oils and grease for the garbage. Soggy wet foods can go into them as well. It is a much better way to dispose of these things if you intend to throw the jugs away in the first place.
