RE: Trouble With 4H Projects
The very reason we left 4H, nobody expected "kids" to really know anything. My daughter was in cooking, scary that people didn't think it was important to know the right way to clean a counter before you cook on it. Actually I agree on this point, make the pillows "as unto the Lord". Make them as charity projects and donate them to a local shelter. It will teach a different lesson.

Does your county have fashion review? We do it here in Washington. The member models (or has a piece they've made modeled) for the judges, then answers questions about the piece. This would allow them to show the judges their knowledge.

This is also a good time to teach them that what they do is important because they know it's right, not because the world thinks it's wrong.

Oh, another idea. Ask the sewing superintendent if your girls can do a sewing demonstration. Then everyone will see how good they really are on their own. ... View related article.

RE: Preparing For A Winter Power Outage
When we were on Guam (typhon area, not ice) we learned to fill milk jugs with water and put them in the freezer to act like an old fashion ice box. Your milk did the same thing. Then we could keep the freezer cold longer and have extra drinking water as it thawed.
I'd add to make sure there's a phone in the house that has a cord. If the cell isn't an option, the cordless phones often don't work in an outage. I keep the old $6 phone in my night stand, just in case.
And we assigned each child their own flashlight so we didn't have kids stumbling in the dark with a candle.
Great work on making it work. Your preparation as well as your attitude made it fun instead of a tradgity for your children ... View related article.

RE: Looking for Fast Diet Pill
I'm with MCW. Your sister needs to decide if she wants to enjoy the next two months of preparing for her wedding, or ruin it by changing who she is. He loved her enough to propose to her, she shouldn't need to worry about it. If she wants to lose more then 10lbs before her wedding day, she needs to change the day.
If we're talking about 10lbs, a daily trip to the gym (which will help with the stress too); watch what she eats and drinks; and water. She'll be fine. Any more than that and she'll be miserable and the wedding will be something she's glad to be done with instead of a joyous memory.
Support, don't lecture.
Good luck ... View related article.

RE: Homemade Gift Ideas For Teenagers or Young Children
Another really good (and easy) quilt idea is a t-shirt quilt. There are instructions all over the web. Pay attention to what they and their friends are wearing. My daughter and her friends are into the "retro hippy" look. They made blue jeans into bags, so I'm macrameing a strap for my daughter. Fingerless gloves and hacky sacks are very popular with most guys. But most of all, kids like food. It "fits", it's the "right color", and they don't have to store it! Bake away. Candy. Homemade granola for the naturalist. Cookies. Kids (young and old) love food.
Have fun. ... View related article.

RE: Sunday School Craft
You didn't mention the age of the class. But if they can answer questions on their own, they should be able to handle this.
If you have the budget to buy picture frames, go for it. But if not, cut frames from cereal boxes. One piece for the front, one for a backing. Have the students cut out the words they used from magazines. They could cut out letters to make the words if they can't find the right one. Glue them to the picture frame. Then put their picture in the frame.
If you want to share it as a class display, take the finished frames and put them on a wall or bulletin board with either your theme or something like "I go to prepare a place for you" or "In my house there are many rooms"...(each frame represents a room) as the roof.
Hope that helps, hope that's what you're looking for. ... View related article.

RE: Locksmith Themed Christmas Parade Float Ideas
...or unlocking the door to the toy room at the North Pole. "Even the elves lose their keys"
How about "Unlock the (spirit, joy, thrills) of Christmas" or "Family is the 'Key' to a Happy Christmas" (particularly good if it's a family owned business).
A tree decorated with keys and locks with a door knob on the top.
Remember to be funny to be remembered.

RE: Suggestions For 4-H Craft Project
We have been a part of 4H for 5 years. My husband was the arts and crafts fair superintendent. So this advise comes from knowledge and experience. Do what makes your daughters eyes light up. If you have to make her push through it and she hates it, it's going to show in her workmanship. Take her to one of the big craft stores and let her walk around. Let her touch as much as possible. You don't mention her age, but if she's old enough for 4H, she's old enough to have a sensible opinion.
I think there are times to make a child try something, but if you want her to do this for presentation her heart has to be in it or she could be very discoureged by the whole thing.
4H has a catagory for everything.Your leader can help you figure it out.

RE: Underwater Picture Scene Ideas
On the fantasy underwater side, you could try an Atlantis theme. The lost underwater world. With crumbling columns (papermache). How about a seachest for the lady to sit on or the young man to rest his leg on?
A fun thing to do with the rolls of blue craft paper is mix a little white paint with bubble mix and blow bubbles onto the paper. It's a cool "water" effect. Ask your art teacher. These are fun, inexpensive water effects he or she would know.
Maybe you could get some art class students to help with the scene.
Have fun, don't let it get too stressful. Be sure and post a picture. ... View related article.
