RE: Clean and Green Bathrooms
I've been using vinegar and baking soda to clean with for years, a tip from my beloved great aunt! I also read in Hints from Heloise several years ago that vinegar has most of the same anti-bacterial capabilities as our harsh chemicals. I think we're going to see a big change in cleaning products soon! I don't think we know what we've been inhaling all these years, but I'll bet it's not good! ... View related article.

RE: Effective Homemade Cleaners
Don Imus' wife (can't remember her first name) wrote a book about this very topic. He is a recovering alcoholic and she wanted only "safe" cleaning agents in her home. I saw her on the Today Show a while back and she used a lot of white vinegar and baking soda. I read once in a Heloise column that white vinegar destroys 99% of household bacteria! I use it a lot. Mixed with water, it needs hardly any rinsing. Baking soda can be used as a cleanser/deoderizer. Good Luck!

RE: Texas Rat Snake In Our House
Do you have a clause in your contract? Shouldn't the seller be obligated to take care of the problem if they did not disclose this information prior to the sale of the house? Depending on how long you've owned the house, I think there should be some responsibility on the seller!!! Like you, I would not be able to sleep in a house with snakes! ... View related article.

RE: Mold In a Washing Machine's Detergent Dispenser
When you're getting ready to wash a load of whites that can be bleached, add 1/2 cup cascade crystals and 1/4 cup bleach into the detergent compartment. This should take care of it! This is one of my most favorite recipes for cleaning! ... View related article.

RE: Stains on White Kitchen Countertops
A solution of 75% Cascade crystals and 25% clorox diluted in hot water will remove just about any stain without altering the color. I even use it to get out stubborn stains from my white laundry. Mostly cottons, doesn't work well on anything "stretchy" or silky. Somehow, the Cascade reduces the severity of the bleach while it keeps it's cleaning power. ... View related article.

RE: Hanging Curtains Without Buying Curtain Rods
The string is a good idea, but I used heavy twine that made a "roughin' it" look. If your curtains were plaid or masculine, this would be a good choice. ... View related article.
