I had a friend who went through this. Her daughter would hold it for days, then when she finally went, it was painful and she would hold it again....a terrible cycle. Add fiber. Break up little pieces of mini wheats and sprinkle wheat germ and other fiber into yogurt, etc. She will really need to go and it will be much easier. Follow up with a prize that means something special to her. Repeat. You will have success. ... View related article.
This worked like magic with my 4 year old! I told him the more he sucked his thumb, the greater the chance it would start to taste yucky. Then, when he was sleeping at night, I painted on that nail polish for stopping nail biting onto his thumbs (I did both in case he switched thumbs). After a week he stopped. After a few months I noticed he was starting to suck again, I reminded him of what happens when he sucks his thumb, put it on again and that was it. ... View related article.
One thing I did when my 2nd child was born. Everyday, when the baby slept, I set a timer for 30 minutes and gave my older son my undivided attention. He got to choose what we did and we called it "Mommy/Danny time." Danny is now 15, my middle son is 12 and my little guy is 4. First, dairy increases mucus production. If someone has a problem with a cough, you don't want that. If my son doesn't like the medicine, I have a cup of water in the other hand to give immediately and wash out the taste. If you cannot find a cough medicine with a flavor your child can tolerate, many pharmacies now add flavors. There are also now the ones you just put on their tongue and they dissolve (faster if you give them something to drink). ... View related article.
I have 3 boys and pooping was always a little scarier than peeing. I will skip all the psycho-analysis as to why and tell you what worked for all of them: extra fiber sprinkled on food, extra frosted mini wheat cereal and. The ultimate, a big prize every time they pooped! (each child had a different prize they valued). I choose to think of it as rewarding good behavior, rather than bribing. Top it off with a "hurray for going potty song" and eventually, they no longer need the reward. In the end, remember, she won't go to college in diapers! Good luck ... View related article.
