That's a great idea! I used to do bacon in the oven also. I would do the whole package, freeze or refrigerate it, and heat up what I need later.
Here's what I do with my breakfast sausage: I open up a roll of regular sausage and a roll of ground turkey or turkey breakfast sausage (I can't always find it). I mix them together with a cup of quick oats or instant oats. Sometimes I grind up the oats in a blender, sometimes I don't. Then I measure it out into 1/4 cup or 1/3 cup measures and then I form them in to patties. Meanwhile, my beloved George Forman grill is heating up. I cook the whole batch, let it cool then freeze 'em. A minute or so in the microwave and we've got yummy sausage.
I started doing this because I hate when it takes "forever" to make breakfast. And I figure it cuts the fat a bit and squeezes in a little fiber. ... View related article.
That is a great suggestion and I wish I knew about it a few years ago.
If you can't get the titanium or stainless steel frames make sure the plastic ear protector goes all the way up and beyond the curve behind your ear.
I had a pair of glasses where the plastic was only on the end and I got a really gross itchy rash where the metal contacted my skin. The inner part of my ear started to have a reaction too.
There are ear protectors out there. They look like clear plastic tubes. I wasn't able to find them in any store so I had to make do. I couldn't afford new glasses at the time and ended up wrapping that part in bandaids or surgical tape. ... View related article.
We had box elder bugs at my Mom's house 2 years in a row or maybe it just seemed like 2 years. We didn't do anything to them and they eventually went away. We haven't seen them at all this year. I'm not sure if they realized there are no Box Elder trees around for them to eat or what. They were living under her porch. I live in Western Pennsylvania. ... View related article.
Hi all! We tried the pumpkin face cookies and they were fantastic. Thanks for bringing back a little bit of childhood to my siblings. I've heard about this cookie a lot over the years and finally got to find out what all the fuss was about. We made two batches and everyone was thrilled! We'll probably make them around Thanksgiving too! Thanks again! ... View related article.
Hi folks! Thanks for the responses. I've been away from the computer for a while so I'm sorry I didn't respond faster. My sister and I will try the recipes hopefully this week. Since it is now October, it will be the perfect time!
Hey Bugsley! Too bad you weren't home in the 'Burgh this weekend. They were celebrating Pittsburgh's 250th anniversary. They had a 30 minute fireworks display that was pretty great. You know we shoot off fireworks every other weekend here. :) They shot them from 5 locations on the rivers and from 3 buildings and a bridge or two. It was really something! ... View related article.
Putting out too much seed can also lead to waste, and can attract rats. I'm pretty sure I've seen one before dawn. I don't like the idea of rats coming around but I've yet to find a way to tactfully tell my husband not to put out so much. He likes to put out lots so there is some for the birds after the squirrels make their visit. My thought is just to suplement their diet, they'll figure out the rest. A lot of people don't like squirrels hogging the feeder, but we don't mind. They're really acrobatic and fun to watch, and they don't eat everything.
We get Mourning Doves, Cardinals, Chickadees, Titmice, Sparrows and Juncos, Blue Jays and a Woodpecker comes by once in a while. I make up stories about what they're all saying and thinking. We watched a cat this morning sneaking up on the birds, but I think he was just messing with their minds. He wasn't very subtle.
We've seen deer come by to have a nibble at what falls out of the feeder, or knock over the feeder :) We've even seen a fox in the early morning looking for a little birdie breakfast! He just doesn't seem to time it right though. The early fox doesn't catch the birds, but if he'd come a little earlier he could catch the rat. There's also a hawk who tries, un-successfully (so far), to grab lunch. Where we live is considered urban, but there's lots of woods and parks. Still its extraordinary to see these creatures thriving in a city. ... View related article.
