RE: Unusual Gift Wrapping Ideas
#!-last year I did a fun gift for my daughter & son-in-law,celebrating a 1st xmas with twin boys. I took one of their large formula cans & instead of opening the pop-top, I took the bottom off with a can opener that takes the lid off with the rim(not the one that cuts it-does that make sense?). I emptied the can & cleaned it(careful not to mess up the label while cleaning). Use several small odds & ends for gifts & stuff the can with them, alternating with gift "grass" or tissue paper until it's full. Use a good glue(I used gorilla glue) to put the bottom back on & wipe away any excess. Put some weight on the can until it dries. ---my kids thought they were getting formula for xmas & couldn't figure out why I asked them to open the can in front of us!

#2 take a clean 2 liter bottle with label removed. Cut an "I" slit lengthwise. Stuff with gift 'grass', confetti & glitter. Poke the gift/gifts in among the grass so it can't be seen(wrap in tissue paper 1st if you like), then use clear packing tape to seal the slit you cut in it. Decorate the bottle as you like, or leave it plain so the inside stuff shows. ... View related article.

RE: Uses For Formula Canisters
I used one of the tall ones to stuff plastic grocery bags in, then I cut an X is the lid & cut just a small bit of the tips of the X off so I can get my finger in if I need to. It works just like kleenex tissue, I can pull them out as I need them. Takes up very little space & I think I got about 50 bags in one can! ... View related article.

RE: Uses for Clothespins
I always keep a couple of clothespins in my suitcase, because it never fails - every hotel I've stayed in have curtains that gap at least a little & let outside light in(or peeping eyes!), so I clip the curtains together & prevent the gap.

My mom killed the battery in her car several times by forgetting the headlights were on. She began clipping a clothespin on her visor(pull visor down so it blocks vision) or her steering wheel. Then when she would get in, she'd see the clothespin & transfer it to her keychain before starting the car, so that when she turned the ignition off, there would be the clothespin on her keychain to remind her to turn her headlights off & put the pin back where she saved it.

I always thought my mom's method would be a good way for busy parents to remember their child is in the car & maybe prevent the ever-growing incidents of infants being forgotten & dying in vehicles. ... View related article.

RE: Take Care Of Yourself When Handling Old Patterns
That's a good idea, I'll have to remember to do that!
Before you go through them, you can also put them in a plastic bag & stick them in your freezer for a day or two. That's what I do to get rid of the mildewy, dusty, musty smells & kill any creepy crawlies that might be in the pages! ... View related article.

RE: Stuffing that Warms with Body Heat
I was lucky to find one of those warming blankets for cats on clearance for $5 & got it. It IS noisy, but my old kitty LOVES it because it keeps his 'old bones' warm. But I have to say my mom got one for her dog, who was so afraid of the noise it made, that she never used it.
The noisy thing that keeps it warm is a space blanket. It is like a shiny aluminum blanket, that reflects your body heat back.. You can find them in the camping Dept. at Walmart, on the wall with the disposable rain ponchos & stuff. It's packaged small enough to fit in your back pocket & is less than $1. I used to have one folded under my kitty's favorite blanket until I got him the warming blanket ... View related article.

RE: Draining a Can of Tuna
My can opener lifts the top off instead of cutting it out, so I can't use the lid to drain the tuna. I have one of the sieve-things but can't ever find it when I need it! But I DO have a drinking glass that has a bottom that is the same size as the can opening. I put the glass in the can, tip the can sideways over the sink & push the glass down until it drains. ... RE: Travel Toothbrush Holders For Crochet Hooks
That's a good idea, especially for travel - wish they were long enough for knitting needles too!
I keep my crochet hooks in the old-fashioned eyeglass holders (like long cloth bags with the little knobby-things on top like a change purse) that belonged to my Grandma. They are the perfect size & hold alot. ... View related article.

RE: Rubber Band to Remove Excess Paint from Brush
Just be careful about putting the rubber band on & off!
I was painting my son's closet door black with red, yellow & orange flames. Had the doors on sawhorses & outlined the flames. I set the can of black paint on the door to put the rubber band on it. As I was stretching it from top to bottom, the rubber band slipped & flipped the can out of my hands - black paint all over the door, the floor & me! LOL! Boy what a mess. I'm so glad it was just a small can of paint!
Lesson learned-after I cleaned up my mess, I ended up having to re-sand & re-primer the door because the black showed up through the flames. ... View related article.

RE: Allergic Reactions to New Carpet
I have mild asthma & have had asthma attacks & hives from being around new carpet. My aunt had a really horrible allergic reaction from the chemicals in her new carpet & had to go to the ER to be treated-she had to have the carpet removed before she could go home!
I've heard that you can ask the carpet people to unroll the carpet in their warehouse & let it "breathe" & relaease the chemicals for a few days before installing.
We installed new carpet in our living room ourselves a few years back. It made me cough just to smell it on the roll. We layed it out in our driveway for the whole day & I didn't have any problem with it after it was installed except some mild coughing. ... View related article.
