RE: Severe Back Pain
I've had the same and doctors couldn't find any reason. The Orthopedic Surgeon sat me down and told me he felt I would get better and I did . . . but it took about a year. I believe it was stress because it can settle in your body. ... View related article.

RE: Recipes Using Potatoes
In the summer I often boil extra potatoes in the skin. I keep them (covered) in the refrigerator and they come in handy for fried potatoes or potato salad etc. I also like to have hard boiled eggs in the refrigerator. Something my Mother always did in the hot weather. ... View related article.

RE: Decorating: Ceiling Fan Facelift
At my request, my husband removed our kitchen fan blades and then I painted them. I used "crackle" paint over the base paint. I looked for new updated glass shades but they were too expensive then I found some at Wal Mart for $1 each. I had the paint on hand so the project cost me $4 to update the fan. ... RE: Asking Wedding Guests to Bring Finger Foods
Just went to a wedding last week - only flowers were what the bride & 3 bridesmaids carried. Nothing for the groom, parents, grandparents, etc. No flowers in front of the church or on the reception tables. They cut that out & put the $ towards a trip to Hawaii. They will remember that trip far more than who had a flower for a couple of hours. But you asked about guests bringing their own food ? That would be out of the question. People have posted many good ideas here to save on food costs. ... View related article.

RE: Inexpensive Church Mother's Day Project Ideas
Many years ago when I was in Sunday School, every year we would make single flowers out of kleenex. They were pink or white. When Mothers Day came, we pinned a flower on every woman - pink if their Mother was living and white if they were deceased. It was to honor their own Mother - because all women are not Mothers, but they all have a Mother. I think it was a beautiful thing to do. ... View related article.

RE: Making Children's Dress-Up Costumes
I can sew, so I took our daughters old prom & bridesmaid dresses out of the closet & took them apart. I remade them into play dresses for our 4 yr old granddaughter. I had to buy some trimmings, but they were all recycled. We put them in a big flowered storage box along with some bead jewelry and plastic high heels. It was her birthday present. Sometimes she would take them along in a plastic bag to the babysitter and the babysitter asked if I would make some for her because they were a big hit with the little girls. I said - sure, just bring me some old prom dresses - but she never did. When our granddaughter outgrew them, they were packed away for her little sister. ... View related article.

RE: Inexpensive Plus Size Prom Dress
You will laugh, but find a pattern & fabric & make it yourself or take it to a seamstress. If the shopping for it is too overwhelming, ask for help in the store or take a friend along who would know about these things. We have a lady in town who makes bridesmaid dresses all the time. My granddaughter spent her own money for her prom dress last year - cost $300 - Crazy ! This year she shopped much earlier & got a good deal on one - lesson learned. Her friend had one made - probably because she is the youngest of 5 daughters & they don't spend $ like that - it was lovely. Back in the "olden" days (60's & 70's) we made our own. The Dollar Store (yes Dollar store !) in my hometown has a back room full of prom, wedding & bridesmaid dresses. They come crammed in big boxes & the help fluffs them up with a hand steamer after they are unpacked. They aren't a Dollar but they cost much less than from the Mall. There are options. ... RE: Tips For Dealing With Stress
When I feel stress, I just have to look around & see I don't have it so bad. We live in a small town and we have a young teacher who just found out he has lukemia. His wife stays home - they have 4 children - 2 at home & 2 in the lower grades. That overshadows any stress that I have. Oh yes, I agree it helps give you Peace to bring your troubles to a Higher Power. ... View related article.

RE: Saving Money on Toiletries
I buy bars of soap & the minute I get home, I unwrap each bar & store them in a basket in the bathroom cabinet. The air drys them out & they are never soft when I use them. The soap works just the same & the bar will last much longer. I've used soap like this for 40 yrs. I change my toothbrush every 3 months but my dentist always gives me a new one at my 6 month checkup so I only buy 2 a year. My daughter just told me her hairdresser says change brands of hair shampoo after using 2 bottles of the same brand. ... View related article.
