RE: Can My Puppy Get Parvo Again if He is Not Vaccinated?
Until the dog is at least 18 months old it should get the vaccination with the Parvo vaccine, but after that it shouldn't need it.

Do not use bleach on the yard, 1: waste of money, bleach won't do anything except polute the ground and kill the grass.
Use Shacklee Basic G on the yard, it kills the Parvo and won't polute the ground or kill the grass ... View related article.

RE: Home Remedies for Dog (Worms)
Joan415: There ARE ways to treat Parvo at home, and the $214 I spent doing so for two dogs is way cheaper than the $1500+ the vet wanted. Parvaid and pedialyte and gatorade do work, you need to follow the directions to a T. All the vet wanted to do was put them down once they had spotty bleeding, now after HOME TREATMENT they are both doing great!

VetTech
Whats heartbreaking is vets thinking they should be paid like doctors, getting $1500 or more for treatments that cost under $200. My "vet" cares so much that they wouldn't sell me a couple IV's or get a prescription for antibiotics because they wanted the $1500 EACH minimum to treat the dogs. It wound up costing $214 to treat TWO dogs.
I'm not rich, but my dogs get excellent care, and from what I have seen at vet offices I give them much better care at home than the vets or their techs! ... View related article.

RE: Parvo: How Long Should I Wait to Get Another Dog?
Bleach will NOT work outside! Use Shacklee Basic G, it kills the Parvo in the grass, on the ground but won't kill the grass or pollute the ground.

BTW, Parvo stays on and in the ground a year if not treated and it can be tracked home by anyone who goes in your yard. ... View related article.

RE: Why Did Puppy Get Parvo After Starting Shots?
#1: Yes your dog can get Parvo during the time of the vaccination, any time during the series. They inject a live virus into the dog. A dog with a weak immune system can't handle the live virus being injected in them
#2: It takes 3 days to incubate, the Parvo could have come from the vaccination or poorly cleaned vets exam room.
#3:Breeders rarely admit they have any problems and try to hide things to keep from being sued.

#4:Parvo is a virus and as such is treated like any other virus, antibiotics and lots of fluids. Vets also say once bleeding occurs theres nothing left to do... WRONG again! Proper treatment can be done at home and successfully but it takes a lot of effort and time. The tough part is the constant hourly treatment especially for just one person. I just did it for two dogs by myself using Parvaid, Pedialyte, Gatorade, Beef Liver, Amoxicillen and then chicken broth and soft canned dog food. Both dogs pulled through and are now active and eating on their own again. Both had bloody stools and urine and on one occasion each threw up blood but BOTH survived!

The biggest thing is keeping them hydrated during the early and mid phases as well as keeping their electrolytes up too, that's where the pedialyte and Gatorade work. The Beef Liver helps their blood and liver while the Parvaid coats the intestines and stomach.

Parvo incubates for three days then attacks the intestines and bone marrow. It does this for 7 to 10 days then it takes 6 weeks to completely rid the dog of it, during that time do not vaccinate that or any dog it is in contact with! ... View related article.

RE: Do Dogs that Survive Parvo Still Carry the Virus?
#1: dogs that survive Parvo do not get it again
#2: vaccinations CAN give a dog Parvo, usually the dog has a low immune system
#3: Bleach will NOT kill Parvo on the ground, it will kill your grass though. Use Shacklee Basic G to kill Parvo in the yard, it won't hurt the grass or ground.

#4: Parvo lasts for 1 year in the ground, not 5 or 7 years.
#5: DO NOT vaccinate a dog that already has Parvo! Parvo has a 3 day incubation period and a dog already trying to fight the disease will have a much harder and longer fight on it's paws due to injecting MORE live virus in it! I already went through that after my vet said to vaccinate the dogs immediately after one had come down with Parvo. Instead of fighting the virus once we had to do it twice, the little guy was lucky, he will survive but I feel like suing that damn vet for his bad advice! Never vaccinate a sick dog! This whole mess started because the vet vaccinated one that had a weak immune system, she died and so did another older pup that had been vaccinated back in September. ... View related article.

RE: Does Anyone Have A Positive Parvo Story?
I just went through the Parvo with 4 dogs. 2 died, 2 recovered after getting Parvaid and using that and pedialyte and gatorade. Both survivors had gotten so bad they could barely walk, even bloody stool and vomit, but today both are doing great, eating soft dog food and playing again. The dogs got the Parvo after the youngest pups were vaccinated. Oddly the two older (10 months old) pups that were vaccinated last year also got it. One 3 month old and one 10 month old died while one of each age survived!

Things were pretty ify with the youngest survivor until yesterday afternoon when he suddenly climbed up on the couch where I was napping between doses and he was wagging his tail and started licking my face, I knew immediately he felt better! I fed him some chicken broth and he drank it all, then gave him some soft dog food and he ate that and has kept it down. He later ate some more and has kept that down too.He is also drinking lots of water.
His fur is turning soft again and his face and head aren't as sunken as they were. Both dogs began showing signs of improvement just hours after starting the Parvaid. I also let him outside with his mother and father and sister and he immediately went to his father tail wagging and said hi. He went to momma who was trying to get poppa to play tug of war and the little skinny guy tries to take the rag from momma! He's back to his fiesty old self and not afraid to take on his parents or older sister.

These pups are a mix of their momma a Rotty/Pitbull and dad a Brindle Sharpia/Pitbull and are beautiful dogs. Moms 132 lbs while dads now 60 lbs. The little guy looks just like his father, just missing the purple tongue! The 10 month old female is all white with some brown spots on her ears.

I'm so glad these two have made it past the worst of it and I'd trust Parvaid to treat dogs, you must however follow the directions exactly! The little guy I did add Amoxicillen and that addition made the difference for him as he made a complete 180 degree turn after just one pill. At the moment I keep him inside due to the cold nights but he's outside during the day and doing great! Big sister is eating well and outside with the parents all the time. ... View related article.
