RE: Holes in Leaves of Basil and Pepper Plants
If they are little holes, I doubt it's slugs. Probably some type of worm, beetle or even a young caterpillar. There are many natural and cheap home-made solutions to combat them. They all basically have the same theory:

something to repel them - hot peppers, garlic, cloves
something to make it stick - oil, dish soap
(also works to smother them).

Always test on your plants before spraying them. Never spray in the heat of day. If it is a caterpillar, try Bacillus thuringiensis which is safe for humans. ... View related article.

Paper coffee filters also great for cleaning windows. I buy the absolute cheapest brand. I start my cleaning mixture as MCW makes it. For the outside and the kitchen, I also put in a drop or two a dish detergent. ... View related article.

RE: Chinese Food Tips
Another way to preserve ginger for later use is to peel it, cutting away any spots and putting it in plain vodka in a glass jar. Over time, the ginger loses its taste to the vodka, but the good news is that you now have ginger-flavored vodka!

RE: Add Leftover Cheese to Sauces
Also - There's a great old French recipe called fromage forte which is basically a spread made leftover cheese, garlic and white wine (and sometimes butter). Use it cold as a spread or broiled on bread. I use Jacques Pepin's recipe. ... View related article.
