| RE: Safe Candles for Power Outages |
|
I use the led solar lights. I have a battery charger and batteries. I use them for night lights. It costs me about 5 cents a week to recharge them. That way if there is a power outage at night I'm not left in the dark. I also have crank flashlights and a solar charger for back ups. I used a lat of candles because I love them but THEY ARE SO DANGEROUS. I have candles and would use them if there was a very long outage but I prefer the solar lights. ... View related article. |

| RE: Insulating Walls |

I am a senior citizen and although I don't have to pay for heat in my apartment I have found that when I put up garbage bags (black) on my south facing windows I don't have to use the furnace during the day. My little 400 Sq ft.apartment is toasty warm when the sun shines. I put the black bags on tension rods and there is an opening at the bottom and the top. The tension rods are placed about one half way up the window so you can get light into the apartment. This works better when I put more bags over the tension rod to make them thicker. I have used this trick even when it was 15 degrees below zero. ... View related article. |

In fact, I rarely turn on the regular lights for a few minutes. They are great if you are interested in cutting your electricity bill. ... View related article. |

| RE: My Frugal Life - Freecycle |
|
That is the way to do things, whether you are frugal by necessity or not. When I was without things, it would magically show up in a garbage collection day and I would see it on the way to school. Once I didn't have any money for mittens and I found an expensive pair in good condition that way. At that time there was no Freecycle so that was the only way to find what I needed. My daughter and son in law have 4 children and I have been telling them to look for needed things from Goodwill and other thrift stores or for free. She called the other day saying that she found designer clothing at 2nd hand prices. They have no freecycle where they live. My motto is "cheap is good but free is better". This dosen't apply to purchases that demand quality, but the waste that is happening in this society it is possible to find quality goods free also. New isn't necessarily better. We are saving items from the landfills and living well at the same time without a lot of cash. ... View related article. |
