RE: Peeling Fingernails
Maybe you should see your doctor, are you sure this isn't nail fungus? I'd also recommend you to eat a vitamin b supplement regulary. I started taking extra b-vitamins and my nails are growing like crazy! ... View related article.

RE: Use Less Shampoo By Avoiding "Repeat"
I am pretty sure this is not an urban legend. I have actually seen old soap ads that says to repeat the face wash. It's simply ridiculous! I have also heard hairdressers tell me to shampoo twice, but no offence, hair dressers aren't always right!

I wasted shampoo for so many years by repeating, until I decided to try shampoo only once. Try it! What do you have to lose? I also recommend to let the shampoo sit in your hair for a minute, before rinsing it out. It has thus longer time to "clean". I have not needed to repeat since I started with this! ... RE: Make Your Own Face Mask
Google aspirin mask. It helps when you have oily skin, prone to blemishes. Some other ideas I have read somewhere and tried:
-Plain yoghurt
-Yeast, mixed with water to make a paste
-Honey and cornmeal (the gritty texture means you can have a scrub when you rinse it off)

RE: My Rather Frugal Bathroom
All good ideas!
I started saving all of the old spray and pump bottles for possible later uses. You never know when you need one. ... View related article.

RE: Skin Care For Less
You are so right! I'm a pharmacist and learned how to do different creams and moisturizers in university. The difference between face moisturizers does so NOT motivate the huge difference in price, according to me.

All face lotions contain mainly 2 things; water (70-95%!) and an oil phase, usually a mineral oil or derived from canola oil. A typical moisturizer costs only pennies to make! Look at the price tag, who's making the profit?
A lot of the creams will have added vitamins and minerals to them, but guess what? There is no proof, whatsoever, that adding vitamins of minerals to the skin surface will have any effect at all.

In my own experience, it is much more important what you do to the inside of the body. Look at a smokers' skin, usually not in good condition, right? (sorry smokers, nothing personal! :) ) I believe lots of vitamins, fresh fruit and water (not soda) is the best way to achieve better skin. I also take fish oil supplements and eat a lot of fish, and I think it makes a difference. ... View related article.

RE: Front Load Washer Vs. Top Load Washer
I am European and have always used front loaded machines, until I was an exchange student in Iceland. They import a lot of stuff from America and my landlord had top loaded washing machines (white and westinghouse).
Wow they are bad! Not only can you only choose from only three different temperatures on the water, they use a lot more water too! And thus more detergent. I have to say they do not clean the clothes nearly as good as front loaders do! You can tell the machine is just "swirling" the clothes around a little, whereas a front loaded machine really works the laundry because of gravitation. A HUGE difference! So many of my clothes had stains that did not come out the whole time I was using the top loaded machines in Iceland, and the first wash I did at home, they were finally clean again!

My own front loaded machine at home has 5 different temperatures (centigrade) to choose from, and it has a soaking function too. It is also about half the size of a big bulky top loaded washer. Plus it being front loaded means I can put something on top of it. In my case, a dryer! :) ... View related article.

RE: Catching Pet Mouse
I figure, by now you already have caught it. But anyway, this is what we used to do with my sisters gerbils when they escaped.
Listen to small sounds that gives you leads to where the mouse can be. My sisters gerbils were under the fridge 99% of the time! Take some of your mouses' food or some nuts etc, that you know it likes and put it in the bottom of a glass jar. put the jar on the floor near where you think the mouse is. Stay still as not to scare it away. The animal can't resist the "goodies" and will soon get into the jar, and then you can lift the jar up with the mouse in it! ... View related article.

RE: My Frugal Life: Vacation on a Budget
These are some great ideas! Thanks!
Another thing to consider is eating lunch on vacation, wich can get very expensive on restaurants, just like you said. I will go to whatever supermarket is available and buy something to eat outside when the weather is nice. For example ready-made sandwiches, but also fruit, small packages of juice, yoghurt, a bread bun (without anything on it, just freshly baked is delicious!). You can get a lunch for next to nothing! ... View related article.

RE: Making Shirts Longer
My first thought is to simply cut the edge off from another t-shirt, that maybe is stained etc. It could be wider than the first shirt, but not tighter. Cut off a good 4-5 inches. Then attach it to the bottom of the short t-shirt. If the cut of bottom is too wide, cut it open by the seam and sew it back together once you fitted it properly on the edge of the other shirt.

This will create a fun layered look, if you sew the extra piece on the right way. Be sure to match and combine some interesting colours on the two fabrics! ... View related article.

RE: Removing a Facial Scar
I heard if you use liquid vitamin E on the scar every day, it will fade. Simply use capsules with vitamin E, prick a hole with a needle and squeeze out the oil.

I'd also like to add that a scar is nothing to be ashamed of, it gives your face character! Good luck! ... View related article.
