| RE: Inexpensive Pasta Dishes |
Pasta with a drained can of tuna, herbs and salt, olive oil, crushed red pepper. (parmesan is nice if you have any).
Alfredo sauce is merely 1-2tbs butter, 3tbs of light cream or whipping or half half and 1/3 cup of parmesan, just add ingredients to hot pasta and you're done. Black pepper is good too.
My new favorite is thing called Frugal Pizza Rice (can do pasta instead)
1 1/2 cups cooked rice or pasta 3/4 cup med or sharp cheddar shredded cheese 1/2 onion, finely chopped 2-4 sticks celery, thinly chopped 1 level teaspoon dried basil/or oregano/or italian seasoning 1 14.5 oz can tomatoes, chopped 1 egg beaten 2 tablespoons olive oil Salt and pepper.
Heat the cooking oil in a large pan. Fry the chopped onions and celery until they are browned. Mix with the cold cooked rice, the basil and the can of tomatoes. Add salt and pepper to season. Add the cheese, reserving 3 tablespoons of it to sprinkle on the top. Add the egg, and stir well into the mixture pour into greased 8x8 or so casserole or pan. Sprinkle the cheese on the top. Cook at 375 deg for half an hour. ... View related article. |

| RE: 4-H Breadmaker Rolls |
I made em Sunday, they turned out allright. I think I should of let the dough cycle of the breadmaker complete, I didn't let it knead enough only 20 or so minutes. So they were a bit tough.
I am sure if I would of let it go the whole hour and a half it would of turned out better. Just letting ya'll know, it needs a good knead! ... View related article. |

| RE: Homemade Cream Of Tomato Soup |
Compliments of the Tightwad Gazette plus one of my 2 cents.
1 6oz. can of tomato paste 24 oz of milk 1 tsp celery salt 1 tsp italian seasoning 1/2 tsp sea salt 1.5 tbs of flour 1/8 cup of water
Put tomato paste (cheapest at Aldi's) into pan over medium heat, using the can as a measure, whisk in 4 can-fuls of the milk. (plus this loosens the stuck on paste so you can squeeze it all out!).
Blend. Combine flour and water in a cup and make a slurry. Add to pan. Add your seasonings. Heat until thickened. Delicious. Could leave out the Italian seasoning and it would probably taste less like pizza. But hey I like pizza!
PS For extra spice add some crushed red pepper. Or even a sprinkle of garlic powder. You can also make soup using tomato sauce and milk too. ... View related article. |

| RE: Making Iced Tea At Home |
I prefer the taste of Luzianne too. Its very popular in the south. I boil 1 qt of water and add it to one family size teabag. I actually pay extra and do the decaf, that way I can have several glasses during the day and at dinner if I want it.
I also do a simple syrup, so that dh can have his unsweetened.
PS If your tea tastes like dishwater, its not strong enough. Use less water next time. ... View related article. |

| RE: Fried Eggplant Was Too Oily |
I have now made eggplant about 6 times, I used to fry it but it took too long. I finally tweaked a recipe that bakes it. Also salting your eggplant for 20 minutes reduces the moisture.
1 eggplant 1 egg 1 to 1.5 cup of bread-crumbs (toast 3 pieces of bread or use leftover cornbread and grind in your cleaned coffee grinder and add some italian seasoning and garlic powder)
Peel eggplant, and cover both sides with salt for 20 minutes. Gently rinse salt off and pat dry, dip in beaten egg, then bread-crumbs put on oiled cookie sheet. Bake at 450 for 5 minutes each side.
2-3 cups of sauce (thickened) 1 cup of shredded cheese (cheddar or mozzarella) 1/2 cup of parmesan
Put into 8x8 glass dish in the bottom 1/2 of sauce, then add the eggplant, put on the cheeses (1/2 of the parm), then remaining of sauce and top with remaining parm sprinkle a little italian seasoning on there too. Cook for 35 minutes in a 350 oven.
Very very good. If you want you can add a layer of pepperoni in there for the kids.

| RE: Saving Money on Baby Clothes |
I am so grateful for hand me downs. I ask mothers with children for them and then separate by season and size in rubbermaid tubs in the basement. I can't believe the prices on clothes for kids, its so expensive. Also whatever I have too much of in a particular size and season I pass along. People know that I will take it all, plus it makes people feel good to know that their stuff is going to a good cause and not some bin in a parking lot that is going to get turned around and resold for profit. Also for my shower, (my third kid), I requested used baby clothes, as a gift, I will hopefully get a fair amount.
