Here's a website that shows how to cut glass. It's really easy, and all you need is a glass cutter which is inexpensive and can be foun in the hardware store or a craft section of a department store like Walmart. You don't need special snippers.
If you don't want to try cutting it yourself, the other option is to take your glass to a local hardware store that sells glass cut to order, and ask nicely if they would be willing to cut your glass for you. They probably won't charge much, but they usually like to sell you the glass! :-)
If that's not an option, do the same at a local picture framing shop and ask if they can cut your glass.
Adding chicken stock in place of some of the water can add a lot of flavor.
When I make navy bean or split pea soup I put in a couple of ham hocks which gives the soup a great smokey flavor. Cook the soup for several hours until the meat comes off the bones. Remove the fat, shred the remaining meat and put it back into the soup and Yum! ... View related article.
First, know that you aren't alone. Second, even if your husband doesn't hit you, he's still abusing you. Verbal abuse is battering without fists. It's the way that a man controls the woman in his life on many levels, including financial, if he controls the money. There is plenty of help in every state for battered women, and make no mistake, your husband is battering you emotionally.
I suggest you seek counseling for yourself. That will help you empower yourself over your husband's bad behavior. Reaching outside of your home for help is the first step to sanity. You can change yourself, but don't expect to change your husband. It rarely happens. Try to step outside of your comfort zone and seek help from people who understand Battered Women's Syndrome. I grew up in a home with a father who was abusive on every level, physical, sexual, and verbal/emotional. Verbal abuse can be one of the worst forms of abuse to a woman and her children, regardless of their ages.
You can find help everywhere. Call your local battered women's helpline. If you can't find a local number, try this website http://www.ndvh.org/ which is the National Domestic Violence organization or call their hotline at 1-800-799-SAFE (7233). They can direct you local help, if that's what you want.
My brown rice comes out great every time. 2 to 1 is the general rule for most grains (2 parts liquid for 1 part grain).
However, I started using the instructions on the Carolina Brown Rice package, but I reduce the liquid by 1/4 cup. This is how I do it and it comes out perfect every time.
Put 2-1/4 cups water in pan. Add a teasp. butter and a pinch of salt if you want, but it's optional.
Bring water to a boil.
Add 1 cup of brown rice, stir once, and reduce heat to low and let simmer for 45 minutes exactly.
I get fluffy rice with no excess liquid.
NEVER take the lid off of the rice or it won't come out right.
If you are going to make a rice pilaf, you can substitute all or part of the water with chicken or beef broth. Yum... Hope this helps.
It's a reasonable restriction to protect both potential pet owners and the pet. The best thing to do is to bring your available pet to the local shelter where they will examine it for good/poor health, give it the vacinations it needs and most importantly, spay or neuter it..
Btw, for anyone's information, when you TYPE IN ALL CAPITALS, it's the same thing as shouting or screaming to people on the internet, emails, etc. :-)
Editor's Note: We have a few readers that can only type in All Caps so please don't think they are shouting at you. ... View related article.
You may just have a genuine antique on your hands.
I had one until recently and decided I would sell it, but I remember that light going on and think it may be the shift lock light. Try hitting the shift key.
Meanwhile, I did a Google search and found the Smith-Corona website that has some operating manuals:
Check out the various manuals (you need Adobe to open the pdf's) and see if you find a solution. Play around with the keys. You probably can't break it! Before you do anything, first try shutting it off, unplugging it and doing a fresh start-up, just to see if it resets.
Good luck,

Please take the kittens to a vet. Don't fool around with home remedies because they are so young. They may need an antibiotic eye cream which the vet will prescribe. But, first you need to find out if they have an respiratory infection which could kill them.
Never use any product on an animal that has warnings on them as DANGEROUS to humans!
If anyone is smoking in the house, make them go outdoors. That goes for adult cats, too.
Try nail polish remover first -- acetone. If that doesn't work, use paint thinner or terpentine if you have some. Use cotton balls to reduce dripping. Place on spot, wait, then scrape it off gently with a plastic putty knife, and have some paper towels on hand because you don't know what that will do to your car's paint. I can't imagine why those solvents would damage your windshielf, because it's glass. If you're against using the chems, try white vinegar, ya never know.
Then cover your windshield with something -- a tarp -- or get out from under them trees!
