RE: K.C. and Rusty (Cats)
Hey!
I had a cat named K.C. for many years as well. (We named him that short for Kitty Cat because when we got him we didn't know whether he was male or female--too young).
My K.C. was a "Holstein Cat"--Haha...white with black patches. I loved him. After several years of good health he got sicker and sicker with cancer on his nose and feline diabetes and we didn't have the money or the heart to prolong his misery so we put him to sleep and I buried him myself with many of my tears to water his grave. I buried him at his happy hunting grounds where we had once lived--where he was really happy. He was a good kitty.
Thanks for posting this!

PS--I'm sorry about Rusty, the cat I had just before we got K.C. ran off or something just the same. He was named "Lynx" (long eartips and bushy tail) and he was probably one of my all-time favorite cats--both an indoor and outdoor cat with a penchant for roaming the woods with me AND snuggling. ... RE: Are Macs Good Computers?
I've grown up in a Mac family and since going to college and using a PC for two years, I can tell you that I've never had as much trouble with a computer as I've had with my Windows laptop. The only benefit is there's more freeware for PCs as well as more compatibility with most people's office computers, making uploading resumes, documents etc easier. However you can now buy MS Office for Macs so it's not so much of an issue.
Macs require less than half of the maintenance that PCs need, are intuitive to use once you get the hang of it, and are generally better-built than many PCs. Plus they're now as cheap or cheaper in some cases than PCs.
Go with Mac, I think you'll like it.

RE: Poll: Are you concerned about Global Warming?
I'm not quoting anything that could be called a "think tank."
And I will refrain from posting anymore on this thread as it is obvious to me that we have a very touchy person here who is not educated enough to know how to think for himself.

RE: Release Your Inner Child
Oh yeah, I still have some of my teddy bears and stuffed animals and I also have a collection of tin soldiers/nutcrackers that I add to every year. Every Christmas we get them out and line them up on our mantlepiece or on the radiator. I think I have twelve or thirteen of them now, very nice ones.

RE: Release Your Inner Child
I like kids too, and I know what you mean by collecting toys. I have my own collection of outdoor/tactical gear and edged "toys" (better to be thought of as tools). I like knives, always have and always will. Some people would dispute as to whether they could be thought of as toys because "kids don't own knives and guns" but I do (and did as a child) and to me they are a great source of enjoyment. I don't just collect them, I carry and use a few on a daily basis. I don't have any "safe queens" because I don't have the money to spend on super expensive knives, but the ones I have I enjoy using.
They are my toys, along with other outdoor gear.
So I agree completely; it's good to have some sort of "toys" in your life:)

RE: Squirrels Eating Plants
Oh, and the coffee grounds/hot pepper/soap suggestions are excellent ideas. We've used coffee grounds at the base of our plants and had scarcely a critter eat our tomatoes in the past two years.
I know how frustrating it is, to walk up to your plants and see a big, juicy ripe tomato, turn it over and find a perfectly symmetrical bite mark in it. A single bite!
Don't worry. Try the mesh/wire and the coffee grounds and you'll be fine.

RE: Squirrels Eating Plants
Yeah, put up some heavy-duty chicken wire with small holes around your garden on heavy stakes driven deep into the ground. Angle it over the plants so that the squirrels can't get in.
Also keep a shotgun w/birdshot (or if you live in the city, a pellet gun) to pop off a couple of those buggers whenever you're around.
Squirrels are like any other animal, they know when they're not wanted and will evacuate to the garden of another poor soul in short order if you give them a warning. Just don't be popping off rounds every five minutes; make every shot count.
The last piece of advice may not be appropriate/legal if you live inside city limits/within a suburban development.
But if you are outside in a rural area, feel free.

RE: Reuse Cooking Water In Garden
You can also do this with dishwater.
Ignore the people who say that it kills the grass and trees; it really doesn't. In fact, that is the only way my family was able to have a garden for a few years that we lived in town, when there was a drought and a ban on water wastage. Our tomatoes, green beans, and peppers all grew just as well as before and after.
Cheers!

RE: Is Garlic Good or Bad for Dogs?
I know my dogs and cats have eaten onion grass from time to time, it is related to onions and garlic and grows naturally in the woods and in our yard. I wouldn't think that any plant edible to humans would be poisonous to dogs or cats, except for chocolate. I sometimes cook with onion grass. It's just like chives.
But then again, my dog once ate a half of a chocolate cake and didn't even throw up, so I would be inclined to doubt most horror stories of "poisonous foods" that will kill my pets.

RE: Uses for Dryer Lint
Dryer lint makes a great firestarter for emergencies, especially if it's rainy or there's no time to look for tinder when you're backpacking or camping or if your car breaks down.
I occasionally save a small bag of dryer lint for this purpose, as well as a small bag of paper birch bark.
BUT YOU MUST KEEP IT DRY, OR IT WILL DO YOU NO GOOD!!!
