RE: Long Island Iced Tea
I forgot to add...... Rosebud used Jamaican Rum. Never use white rum, as the rum is what gives the drink its color. ... View related article.

RE: Long Island Iced Tea
If anyone is wondering, Long Island Iced Tea was created in the 70s by a bartender we called Rosebud (real name Robert Butt). He served it at the Oak Beach Inn in Hampton Bays, L.I. It was presented over ice in a tall slender iced tea glass with a twisted lemon peel and a straw. Rosebud always made sure it was fizzing when he served it. I remember having two there one night in 1974, and almost falling off the stool.

By the mid 80s, you could order it at practically any bar in the country, and the recipes varied. This is the recipe from the Oak Beach Inn:

An ounce of rum, an ounce of gin, an ounce of vodka, an ounce of tequila, a half-ounce of triple sec, a dash of lemon juice and a splash of Coke.

Shake twice in a shaker, and pour over ice.

Enjoy! ... View related article.

RE: Water Saving Tips
If you have an older (not water-saving) toilet, put a brick or small paver in the tank. It saves water with each flush. ... View related article.

RE: Kitchen With Red Sink and Floors
I would add subtle navy blue accents. I would start by adding white cabinet knobs with a deep blue floral design. Then, I'd add an old spice rack or shelf repainted deep blue. You didn't mention the color of your walls, but sponge stenciling here and there can add just the amount of a third color you want, without being overpowering. A kitchen could always use a wall clock, and they come in many accent colors. ... View related article.

RE: Cleaning a Homemade T-Shirt
Before washing, place it in a dishpan or bucket with 1 part white vinegar to 5 parts water for an hour to set the colors. Rinse thoroughly in cold water, then wash by itself, on permanent press cycle, cold water. ... View related article.

RE: Cleaning Concrete Tips
I use pool chlorine and a stiff broom to clean my concrete driveway and walkways. I'll have to try Spic and Span, it's less expensive. Thank you. :-) ... View related article.

RE: Protecting Lawn From Dog Urine
I can offer advice that will prevent future dying grass.

NatureVet makes a product called GrassSaver. It's a vitamin and amino acid supplement for dogs which will neutralize the pH of your dog's urine so it won't burn the lawn. I order it from PetEdge, but you can probably find it at any pet supply store. ... View related article.
