RE: Comforter Too Narrow for Bed
Hello, you could either use a matching or co-ordinating sheet & sew a 'skirt' around the comforter. It could be made any length you want then. Depending upon the style you like, it could be frills, gathers, a flat piece with a few plackets, or inverted pleats, or a few pleats inserted around the sides.

This would also give you the opportunity to make pillowslips to match or co-ordinate with your comforter. Depending on how far you'd like to go with it, you could even make curtains to match, if you bought a couple of extra sheets.
The options are as boundless as your imagination & decorating style. Good luck & I'm sure we'd all love to see what you've come up with once it's completed. Cheers, Wendy ... View related article.

RE: Jewelry Organizing
I had the same problem with chains & bracelets, so I just bought some small cup hooks & attached them to a wooden coat hanger. As I'm renting, I attached the hanger to the wall with removable hooks. I can see what I have without the tangles now. You can use hooks for your rings as well, even if you only have a few. You can paint, or cover/wrap the hanger/s with ribbon, etc. to 'pretty it up'.
If you have studs, you can find heaps of containers in craft shops for separating small beads. These will keep your studs separate & easy to see.

I like the idea of canvas, however I'd use a cross stitch canvas & put it inside a picture frame. The size would depend on the number or studs you need to hang. You can also buy pretty colours of the cross stitch canvas ..with varying sizes of holes. You could even decorate the frame & the wooden hanger to match or you could use the wooden picture frame to screw the cup hooks into, and have all your jewelery together. I think I might use this idea for myself now that I've thought of it! :-))
I find that I wear more of my jewelery now that it's so much easier to see. Have fun. Wendy ... View related article.

RE: Painting Room With Red and Black Furniture
Hi, I agree with the soft grey; a soft, silvery grey would look lovely with white, or the grey mixed with 2/3rds white. This will tie them together nicely without adding a starkness with plain white. When using this 1/3 main colour & 2/3 white, always try to mix enough to do the whole job, otherwise it can be difficult to match up the perfect colour again. I always save some in a jar as well, just for quick touch ups. Love to see a photo when you finish the room.

RE: Super Frothy Body Wash
Hello slumbergirl :-)
Thanks for posting your body wash; it certainly sounds interesting. I wondered if perhaps sweet almond oil, or olive oil might be better for the skin than the canola oil. I realize that it may add a little extra to the cost, but I'm sure the added benefit would be worth it. Have you tried other oils with your recipe? Cheers ... Wendy ... View related article.

RE: Use Vinegar On Windshield Wipers
If this works on windscreen wipers, then it should also work on 'fridge door rubbers. ... View related article.

RE: Get Sale Calendars For The Pictures
I have done this myself when my son left home & set him up into a flat. I managed to buy a calendar 'package' with a large & small calendar pack. They had been $20 for the pack before New Year, but down to $1 mid January!
They were of tropical fish & coral, so lovely colours. I mixed & matched the small & large pictures in a couple of groupings. I then used them as my decorating 'theme' ... & also used the colours for curtains, bedding, etc. It was a really great cheap way to decorate.

RE: Reusing Medicine Dispensers
Hi

I'd like to suggest that you have your daughter put the shampoo into her hands before putting it onto her head, then spread it out evenly on her hands (as you do with handcream). She will be able to spread it through her hair more evenly & she won't get a 'lump' of shampoo in one spot on her hair & reduce doing any damage her hair, as shampooing opens the little scales on the outside of the hair shaft.

I'd also suggest putting the conditioner on her hands the same way, but after she has gently spread it by running her fingers through her hair, then again, gently, comb it through using a wide toothed comb. This will not only reduce stress & damage to her hair, but it will also help to flatten down (close) the little 'scales' on the hair shafts, just as your hairdresser does after putting conditioner onto your hair. This helps to reduce the stress on her hair which is easily damaged when shampooing.

I am sure you will notice an improvement in the condition & shine on your daughters hair using this method. ... View related article.

RE: Getting a Dog to Use Dog House
Hi
I agree with the others when they suggest that the dog will go into his kennel if he is uncomfortable.

However, that said, have you considered putting his treats in the kennel when he would usually be given one each time he does something good? Perhaps a nice bone to chew on when you go out, would also be an encouragement. He would also like having a few rugs &/or old jumpers that members of the family have worn, as they like to 'scrunch' them up to make a nice little 'nest' to snuggle into. I'd also make sure that his kennel is not too small for him, as well as ensuring that wind doesn't blow in that direction. You could also try putting a 'curtain' across the entrance, just nail a piece of fabric over the 'door' so that when he goes into it, he has his own little 'cubby'. The treats & rugs will certainly encourage him to enter with 'feel good' smells ... especially as he will be given the treats & bones when he's done something that pleases you ... so also remember to praise him when he enters his kennel.

My dog loves to 'do circles' scrunching his rugs into a nice little nest to snuggle into. He usually sleeps with me, but on occasion when we've been travelling, he's had to sleep in his crate, and he has no concerns about sleeping in his crate.

If these don't encourage him to use his kennel, don't worry, he is obviousely quite comfortable in the weather. I'd love to hear how you get on with the suggestions offered.
Cheers

RE: Dick Larson's Walking Sticks
Hi Coreen

Do you have any photos of his weeders?
Re: the walking sticks, I have used walking sticks on & off for many years now, and looking at the photo above, I can't imagine it being very safe, or helpful, if used for anything more than as a decorative item. It's point of balance could be dangerous if used in place as a 'proper' walking stick.
I have a lovely walking stick that a friend made me out of willow. She has also painted little gumnuts & gumnut babies with gum leaves, up the stem of it - like the ones from the Australian children's writer May Gibbs & her books about Gumnut Babies.
It's a beautiful cane, but even it isn't the best for walking if one has a balance problem.
Cheers
