| RE: Decorating a White Bathroom |
It's hard to tell from the photo but it looks like you have a soft green shower curtain and I would play off that. You have a good basis to start with since you can introduce just about any color that isn't a primary or other bright, bright colors.
Creams, antique whites and beiges offer a lot to play with. Look in your wardrobe and see what colors you are drawn to. It's an old system that works because if you are likely to wear it, you will likely live with it without feeling uncomfortable or that it's forced.
The previous commenter had mentioned lavender and in thinking about my personal wardrobe, that would not work for me as I don't wear that color. I am drawn to sage, browns, oranges, etc. While I don't wear yellows, I do like mustardy (more like a Dijon mustard) colors, though I don't wear it (my personal skin tone doesn't work with yellows) it does coordinate well with the colors I wear.
Here's a great site to get an idea of a color palette if you find a different shower curtain you like, load it to a Photobucket or Flickr account then paste the address to find colors to go with it: http://www.degraeve.com/color-palette/ ... View related article. |

| RE: Painting Kitchen Cabinets to Coordinate with Green-Yellow Walls |
One thing to keep in mind is that cabinets are more permanent (and expensive to replace) so choose a color carefully that will carry over with wall colors in the future.
That chartreuse-like green on the walls you like now may not be something you want in a year. Cabinets don't respond to multiple paint jobs like walls.
I can't get a larger picture of your space but it looks like your counter tops are brown? Yeah, I wouldn't go with a brown. It also depends on the connecting rooms as well. Furniture, wall colors, etc will make a difference.
Other than black or white, without other pics of the space and connected rooms, white would probably be the my first guess but that might be too bright for the space. Brown cabinets and a brown counter top equals not good.
I would go to some places like Sherwin Williams online where you can put paint on walls in spaces and see what works with it. Good luck. ... View related article. |

| RE: Cleaning Varnished Wood |
Murphy's Oil Soap will help take grease off. I recently moved into an apartment that was built in 1986. There was so much grime and nasty stuff on the cabinets I had to attack it with something that would not harm the wood finish.
I now have cabinets I can touch without wanting to hurl. You just need to use a bit of elbow grease to get at the tougher grime and use hot instead of warm water...dry off with a clean towel. ... View related article. |

| RE: Trouble Painting Laminate Counter Top |
For future reference, when painting standard counter tops you should use a product specifically for that purpose. Here's a link to a DIYer that used Rustoleum's counter top paint:

I have no advice on the current problem though. ... View related article. |

| RE: Remedies for Dry Skin |
I have dry skin (very dry) and live in Colorado so when the heaters come on in the winter it takes a toll on my skin.
I keep humidifiers going all the time and use the newer Jergen's Ultra Healing skin lotion. I swear this is the best lotion I have ever purchased. It's mid range in drugstore lotion pricing and often find it on sale. My only complaint is that there is the light scent of their "original" forumula.
It's better then Curel (& cheaper) and way better than the Suave version. In a pinch, Vaseline's Intensive Rescue is pretty good but Jergen's Ultra H. hands down.
Oh and instead of olive oil, as I was flipping through channels the other day, landed on Dr Oz's new talk show and they had mentioned that safflower oil has the same exact qualities of olive oil without smelling like a salad.
Anyhow, never been happier with a lotion, especially for the price, than I have been with Jergen's Ultra Healing and humidifiers are a must where I live and help so very much. ... View related article. |

Also, they have TV shows and such. Also, if you are a Netflix member or thinking of it, you can watch movies from their site as well. ... View related article. |

| RE: Boiling Pine Sol as Air Freshener |
I don't know it for fact but because of the detergent (chemical) qualities, I would think the answer would be "no, it's not safe". It may very well okay but based on my chemistry classes in high school, boiling something like that, even diluted, could put out undesirable (toxic) gases.
If you want a nice smelling home, there are many other alternatives like putting misc spices in a pot with water (very good way to use up spices and even herbs that are no longer good for cooking or baking). Buying some essential oils that do not have any artificial ingedients and putting a few drops in some boiling water.
There is a reason that most cleaners have labels and many warn against using them but for their intended purposes. I can't say that Pine-Sol has those warnings as I don't use it but for your health, your family and your pets, I would stay away from boiling your cleaners, even in small quantities. ... | RE: Caring for an Umbrella Tree |
Google has a ton of great information if you use "schefflera" as your keyword. I had that problem with my big one after I moved. I ended up cutting back a bunch of the stems/leaves that were just not going to make it. Make sure to let it dry out a bit between waterings, add a bit of fertilizer and put it in an area that it gets indirect sunlight.
A couple of the big stems that were cut back are seeing new growth and one of the cuttings I rooted has reached a stage where it doesn't need to be covered (to maintain moisture). ... View related article. |
