Oh honey - don't worry about priming the wood. I'm a full-time artist and the only reason to prime is that the first coat of paint tends to soak into unprimed wood - thereby making a second coat of paint necessary. I've attached more fabric to more weird surfaces than I care to mention - but when it comes to wood, please use a FABRIC GLUE.There's all sorts out there, Alenes, Fabric-Tac, just tons. I've never used mod podge [although I have a huge unopened can of it in the studio just waiting to be used!] However, I planned on using it for paper application - but you've got some experts who've highly recommended it. Now - One more BIG TIP - after the fabric is attached - especially if pieces/parts are going to be used - Please coat the entire project with a brush on clear acrylic for protection of the fabric from spills, etc.
GOOD LUCK! [ I never think you can truly make a mistake in art - you can only invent new uses for things and maybe wind up sharing your "mistake" - remember we call it a "brainstorm" with others! Barb ... View related article.
I posted a notice in my apartment building that I was seeking residents' plants that were near death. I told them that it was an assignment I was trying to fulfill to attempt to bring these plants back to life, [NO LIES here - it was my personal assignment - if they wanted to read into it that it was a college class - that's for them to do]. I gave them my apartment # and the next day the plant ER came alive right in front of my door and down the hall! I was able to save 85% of them. Unless a person placed a note that they'd like the plant back if I was able to redeem it, I didn't know WHERE they came from so they were mine!! After bringing many back to life, I gladly donated some to the lobby area [I water them] and everyone can enjoy the cleaner air, the excitement of seeing something living in the middle of January and the beauty of decorating with plants. ... I'd be VERY tempted to remove all the color from the jeans - whether that's a 1:3 ratio or 1:2. You might have to de-color them several times. DON'T USE FULL STRENGTH. Now you've got fairly white denim to work with.
At this point, I'd dye them back to blue or black (whatever the color was) with good old Rit dye - and that might take several "dyings" to get the darkness to your liking. I would not even attempt spot dying.
Good Luck (I know just how valuable that Brand is - too bad it wasn't Levi's, huh?) ... View related article.
Well, I still think my mind is going and I do believe I read this apple deal when studying bromides... But, the good news is that I did let them have an 8 week sabatical, in their pots, tipped on their sides in a cool place. These are INSIDE plants. When tipped upwards, I only watered them [it's been 9 days] and the beautiful leaves are growing and I ate the apple instead! ... View related article.
No matter what the economy, people will ALWAYS buy well-made, unique jewelry! It amazes me that these folks must have a line item for "jewelry" in their household budgets. Make it well, price it fairly, never make more than 1 of a kind, focus on 2009 HOT colors, terra cotta, reds, aquas, etc, and you simply can't lose. A professional presentation and proper materials for the items to be packed in after they've been bought is a must. Always a 1 year guarantee for repairs due to workmanship. ... View related article.
