Instead of using up space in drawers for bras, I found a slacks hanger and later moved up to the multiple slacks hanger where you can hang 5-6 pairs of slacks on one hanger. The wooden single slacks hanger works great because you can undo the wooden dowl and slip off the bra on the far back without taking them all off of the hanger. The multiple hanger you just clasp the clasps around the rod and they hang well. Easy to see and pick out the one you need. ... View related article.
We had a kitten that was partially blind and had a head injury and it was a challenge, but we fell in love with her. Try not to move the litter box around because it is fatal to potty training! Same with food and water. If you have stairs in your home you may want to put up baby gates until kitty is more able to accomodate herself. As kittens a little fall down the stairs is scary. As they get older, even when blind, will pick up the skills needed and will go by hearing and smells. It is amazing how they adapt! ... View related article.
We live in Alaska so we cook fish a lot. Any time I cook fish, I spray everything down with Clorox Clean-Up, or regular dilluted bleach would work. I am careful to wipe the WHOLE countertop of the area I fried the fish in (although I don't fry foods any more) as well as all around the sink. You figure that you wash the utensils, pans, etc. in the sink transferring the oils and odors to that area. I bleach all utensils (plastic or metal), pans, etc. I even soak the scrub brushes used and I do not use a kitchen sponge. THOSE TRAP BACTERIA. I have hear that if you place a dish with vinegar water in your oven on low temp. for 30 mins. or so, it will absorb the odor from there, but I have not personally tried this. Also, when cooking in the kitchen we do not realise how much we transfer around or drop onto the floor. A few drops of fish oil on the floor and your whole kitchen stinks until you mop it well. Sounds like a lot of hard work just to cook fish, but if you clean one area and the smell is still there, keep going to eliminate the odor. I have also heard that if you burn a candle near the area you are cooking in that it will dissipate the odors. Have not tried this, but it may be worth the try. ... View related article.
My daughter (about 7th grade at the time) was treated for scabies with that lotion stuff and ended up in the ER. They treated me like a neglectful parent (even though our pediatrician is the one that misdiagnosed it). Turned out she had eczema and because it was on her stomach I never saw it and she never told me until it was to the point of infantigo (sp?).
If it IS bug bites however, and they are not huge open sores, you can put ammonia on them. This is what is used in those insect bite sticks. Sometimes they will burn (less than alcohol would) a bit and then you never itch again. I prefer mine to be open a little in order to let the ammonia get directly to it. The quicker the better.
To keep a child from scratching, put socks on their hands at night or mittens. Believe me, scratching causes bacteria to get in there hence the infantigo scenario I already had to experience. ... View related article.
Take calcium supplements. Or add more calcium to your diet. There are several other vitamins that help in nail growth, but I cannot think of them offhand, but calcium is definately the main one. ... View related article.
I have complained to both McDonald's and to Wendy's and was not satisfied with either one, nor did I receive any "incentive" coupons to return there.
I live in Alaska and there isn't one McDonald's in this state that I would recommend to anyone. I hate going there. Quite a few of the items that McDonald's advertises (including our local locations) they never carry, service is bad, one had safety issues in the play area, one location charged you if you had your order to go, etc. The complaints never were addressed.
Wendy's just told me I should order something else from the menu if I didn't like what our local location has done to change the only thing I ever order from there.
One good thing about it! It helps me to lose weight when I protest against the fast food places! ha ha ... View related article.
Instead of re-canning all of those jars, when you get ready to use each one, add a little sugar or lemon or lime juice to it. You can also add corn, black beans or kidney beans and onion to make a chunky salsa. You could also add a can of diced tomoatoes. ... View related article.
1. I saw on a tv show once where they used those sheets of suede and glued on to a juice can and made them look manly for Father's Day. They cut a circle of felt to fit into the bottom to keep the pens and pencils from making so much noise on the bottom.
2. Use for storing spare dice from games.
3. Place in kitchen drawer to store corn cob holders with the spikes on them.
4. Use for scooping kitty litter, pet food, potting soil, etc.
5. Keep near sink to refill pet water dishes or to give plants a "sip" of water.
6. Make a small first aid kit for the glove compartment in the car, a kids backpack, etc.
7. Place feminine items in them to store in the car or gym bag so they don't get banged up.
8. Make piggy banks for kids, baby shower donations, etc.
9. I like to mix up herbs and spices for my own seasoning mixes and you could easily mix and store them in these containers. Also cinnamon and sugar or cinnamon and powdered sugar to put on toast in the morning.
10. If you use artificial sweeteners, you could place a few of the artificial sweetener packets in these and keep in your car. (As long as temperatures aren't extreme)
11. Some pharmacies have a medical kit that they give away that looks like a prescription pill bottle, but it has a piece of paper in it to write your information, medication, allergies, etc. on in the event 911 is called for you or you are in a car wreck, etc. You could make your own using this container and write or type that information out (be sure to date it) and keep a copy at home in plain sight and one in your car.
I saved a bunch of the Crystal Lite powder cups and for my daughter's 11th birthday we did a makeover party where the girls played in makeup and hair stuff and then did facials, etc. In their goodie bags we gave each of the girls a personalized handsoap. I bought several bags of little charms that said "friends" on them and some glycerin soap wax and fragrance and made hand soaps using the Crystal Lite cups as the molds. I lined the cups lightly with Vaseline to help them come out easier. I filled them halfway, then laid the charm in there and then filled the rest of the way full. We laid on counter to set up and dry overnight and then wrapped each one in plastic wrap. The girls loved them! ... View related article.
People with paralysis tend to have circulation problems and dry skin. You can buy over-the-counter lotions, etc. for bad circulation in your pharmacy. Usually near the diabetic supplies.
Make a coupon book for your friends and give to them with a plate full of homemade cookies. Give coupons for doing things like dusting, cleaning, etc. at her home (if she is spending a lot of time at the hospital she may not have time to do minor cleaning or laundry, etc.) , making a meal(s) to bring to hospital in place of hospital food (I am sure they are both sick of those. Just make sure that they know you are bringing them a meal so that they do not eat before you arrive) or if you don't cook, you could make a gift bag or basket with fruit, snacks, etc. maybe a six-pack of their favorite soda or bottles of water so they won't have to buy the expensive snacks at the hospital machines.
A good book with short stories in it. If the husband is still on pain meds and is sleeping a lot, he may not be able to listen or read for long periods of time. The Chicken Soup for the Soul books are good. There are plenty of wide varieties of those out now or similar types of books with inspiring stories which may be what they need right now to lift them up. Or maybe a crossword puzzle book they could work on together. ... View related article.
