RE: Presents from the Kids
Depending on how old the child(ren) is/are, you can make jewelry boxes from popcicle sticks. We use an interesting rock glued on top for the handle on the lid. I've also made bookmarks with a short story my son had written with a photo of him. After printing and cutting, I used clear contact paper to protect it, then attached a tassel. Another favorite was a popcicle picture frame with painted puzzle pieces around it and a photo of my son in it. ... View related article.

RE: No Money for Christmas Gifts
Perhaps a small book of your thoughts about motherhood and becoming a mother-in-law with photos of your son growing up, getting married, etc. If you sew, you could make a lap quilt or a throw pillow. You could also make stockings for their new home. You could make plant clippings from a house plant or even potatoes or garlic. Or a gift basket with their favorite snacks. Or a movie pack with popcorn, candy, soda, and a movie (you can get them used for just a few dollars). Hope this helps. ... View related article.

RE: Craft: Have Kids Draw Quilt Squares
They sell fabric transfer paper in the fabric stores. It's about $12 for 10 pieces. You can do photographs as well as anything else you can print from your computer. They are very easy to use and washable. ... View related article.

RE: Ideas to Using Fabric Samples
I was given a large number of fabric samples from a furniture store that had paper around the edges on the back. I sewed them together in a crazy quilt style and made a curtain for a super long window (10 feet long). I've also made "one of a kind" stockings for family as gifts and I've used some as wrapping paper for small gifts. My next idea is to make a crazy quilt rug! ... View related article.

When you made the string ornaments, what did you use on the string? I remember making these years ago, and I'd like to try them this year. ... View related article.

RE: A Thrift Store Christmas
I'm sorry Carol, but you're wrong. We are living in hard times and have been for quite some time. I too lived through the 70's, and yes, they were hard, but that doesn't mean that it isn't as hard today. My husband and I, along with our 2 children are living on slightly more than $1000 a month. Compared to the 70's, we'd be rich. However, rent is now $850 a month and doesn't include anything as opposed to the $250 a month it was in the $70's. If we were the only ones having this problem, then there wouldn't be as much assistance available such as food stamps, food pantries, heating assistance, etc. Yet there are people that are being turned away because there isn't enough to go around for all who need it.
I'm not sure what planet you're on, but in my planet there are people working full time jobs making minimum wage and living in their parents basements until they are 35.
I find your condescending comments offensive. As a matter of fact, if you were correct in your assumptions, there would be no need for this website. I suggest you spend your time elsewhere since you believe that all that frequent this site have no reason to be here. ... View related article.

RE: "Stained Glass" Baby Food Jars
If you use a contained tealight candle, there are no problems with fire hazards or breakage due to heat. I got 100 tealights that have aluminum containers that I use in my baby food jars without problems. I did my jars slightly different. I used a sponge brush to apply the glue, then gently tapped glitter and tiny stars to my jar. I finished it with a ribbon that tied around the jar mouth to hide the lid rings. ... RE: Giving Baskets with Handmade Items
I had an idea for a "Dinner and a Movie" basket. Dinner would be pizza (pizza dough ball, marinara, cheese, cut pepperoni) and a family movie like "Snowdogs" or something. ... View related article.
