RE: Sore Throat Remedy: Gargle With Cola
I have heard this advice, too. I tried it one time and it did not help me at all. It probably works for some and not others. The one thing that always helps me without fail is to gargle with salt water. I think it's a matter of trying different things to see what works for you! ... View related article.

RE: Unclogging a Shower Drain
My dad suggested I use a plunger (like the kind you use for the toilet). It took me a while and I had to really get aggresive with the plunges, but it eventually freed it up. Good luck. ... View related article.

RE: Good Gift for a Departing Soldier
Good ideas all around. If your cousin is enlisting, he will inevitably spend time in boot camp and technical training right at first. If he's stateside, most of what he might need is available at the PX.

I guess my thought is more for when he'll be deployed: a nice picture of family; I carried a picture of my husband and I while I was deployed each day on my neck pouch (with my money and IDs). I can't tell you how many times I pulled it out to look at it when I needed a boost. The picture it totally dog-eared and worn, and it's my favorite memento of that time.

Deployed troops usually get a lot of things like playing cards, magazines, books, candy, snacks, toilitries, etc sent from either home (and everyone shares) or from various organizations. Those things are awesome and much appreciated, but they are fairly easy to come by.

I like the idea of something a little harder to come by in a deployed zone; something electronic like digital music. I'm not plugged into music 24/7, but even for me, my mP3 Player was a lifesaver for me when I was deployed. If he already has one, I'd suggest a gift card to Amazon or iTunes so he can download a bunch of songs before he goes. That may be challenging for him to do once he deploys (or is in the throes of boot camp, if they even let him have it there).

RE: DVD Clubs That Don't Require Credit Card
Sorry I can't offer any suggestions about DVD clubs that don't require a credit card, but if you have a debit card that is associated with your checking account, those usually work. I think as long as it has the Mastercard or Visa logo on your bank card, that usually works. Not sure in all cases, but it has with me in the past when I don't want to use an actual credit card. A debit card stands in. Good luck. ... View related article.

RE: Dog's Head Smells
Not sure what part of your dog's head smells, but my shih-tzu's head gets stinky quicker than the rest of her body. Over the years, we've discovered various causes:

--eye infection (she had some eye funk that we had to get medicated pads for. I've also heard taking a warm, wet washcloth and wiping down the eyes and nose area frequently helps)

-- ear infection (this one was really bad. She had been stinking for a while, but I just thought she needed a bath. But one day, I noticed that I really smelled that odor when she shook her head or moved her head. Thank goodness I checked her ears because she had the most disgusting, crusty infection I've ever seen in one ear. It about knocked me over with the smell. The part I feel most badly over is that she must have been growing that infection for weeks--I just didn't put two and two together. We had to take her and have the infection cleaned out (sedation and all; good grief). We take her to the groomer regularly and I told them about it. They just make sure to pluck the ear hair extra good).

RE: Scenery: Mt. Rushmore (South Dakota)
I'm glad you came to our beautiful state to see this impressive monument! One of the things that I hear most often from visitors is how they think that Mt Rushmore was bigger. Or that you could get closer. I suppose it doesn't occur to some that it's on the side of a mountain! It's still impressive nonetheless! ... View related article.

RE: What Breed is My Dog?

RE: Dry Mouth Remedies
I am pregnant for the first time and am experiencing dry mouth (and just general funkiness in the mouth). I normally drink a LOT of water and this has never been a problem for me. The best thing I have found is to chew some peppermint gum. Chewing gum keeps that saliva flowing. Good luck! ... View related article.
