Find a club
Back in my younger, more fit days I ran a sled dog team. We had 3 Siberian huskies, and were a part of a club of mushers. We raced a 3-dog team and ran our dogs with some others for a 5-dog team. The easiest way is board to find another team and run your dog with them. The pack will train him. Look for some clubs in your area and see if they would be willing to work with you and your dog.

I also would train my lead dog on a skateboard to teach him the commands and refine his leadership skills. We were quite a sight in the neighborhood!

The most common commands for a dog team are:
- Hike!: Get moving ("Mush" and "All Right" are sometimes also used).
- Kissing sound: Speed up, faster.
- Gee!: Turn to the right.
- Haw!: Turn to the left.
- Easy!: Slow down.
- Whoa: Stop.
- On By!: Pass another team or other distraction.

Please keep in mind, Siberian Huskies and sledding are "Pack" oriented. You need more than one dog for a team, and Siberian Huskies need to be part of a Pack. ... View related article.

RE: Activities for the Elderly and Disabled
I was in a Nursing home for a bit recovering from an accident. I noticed that the residents really enjoyed and talked about all the time, their garden. The facility built a raised garden so the wheelchair residents could reach, and the others had a regular garden. They LOVED it!

During winter month, or if a garden isn't available..use pots. The then can take care of it, and you can help when you visit.

Some of the ladies really enjoyed scrap booking. Their family/friends would bring in pictures and they would use stickers, glue and construction paper to make little story or scrap books with the pictures. They loved to work on them and show them off. You could even do collages with or without pictures, or using cut out pictures from magazines.

See if your area has an art center...see if they are willing to donate their kiln to fire some homemade pottery, or better, have them do a class with the residents, paint the pottery and they have a keepsake.

Remember, anything you can do with them, is always the best! ... View related article.

I'm pretty computer savy, and homebound...is there anything I can do to help?

Editor's Note: Thanks so much for the kind offer but there isn't much you can do from there, it is an ongoing medical issue and we just haven't had the time to work on things. Thanks for everyone's support and interest in ThriftyFun. ... View related article.

RE: Using Leaves For Mulching Tender Perennials
Sounds beutiful, would love to see some pictures of your beds!!

I was thinking about using my mower, with a bag to pick up the leaves, mulch and put around my plants for winter, but was concerned about the little bit of grass clippings. Would they survive and leave me with a ton of weeds/grass in my flower beds???
