RE: Homemade Sidewalk Chalk
I use the bigger dixie cups. It makes it easy because you can just tear the cup away when the chalk has hardened. An added bonus is that the chalk is slightly tapered so it won't roll all the way down the sidewalk. Instead, it just rolls in a circle. ... View related article.

RE: Razor Blade for Caked On Kitchen Spills
I always have a few of the scrapers from Pampered Chef in my drawer for that kind of job. They are just hard plastic squared with an edge to them so you never have to worry about scratching anything. They are super cheap for a package of these. I also have to worry about the children getting into my kitchen drawers and cutting themselves on something like a razor blade. ... View related article.

RE: Recipes for "Canned" Cream Soups
This recipe comes from the Iowa State University Extension office. It is a dry cream soup mix and makes the equivalent of 7 cans of soup. Mix together
2c nonfat dry milk powder
3/4 c cornstarch
1/4 c dry chicken bouillon
2 T dried minced onion flakes
1 stp dried thyme leaves
1 tsp dried basil leaves
1/2 tsp ground pepper

Mix all ingredients and store in a container with a tight fitting lid. Store in a cool dry place for up to 6 months. Stir or shake well before each use.
To use as a substitute for one can condensed soup, mix 1/3c dry mix with 1-1/4 cups water. cook and stir with whisk until thickened.
This has far fewer calories than the canned variety, and if you use low sodium bouillon it is even healthier! ... View related article.

RE: Using Leftover Candle Wax
I melt all my leftover candle bits in a jar on my candle warmer. I then take cardboard egg cartons and fill the empty spaces with dryer lint. When the wax is liquid I pour it over the lint. The egg carton can then be broken into pieces and used to start bonfires. These fire starters smell great as they burn and seem to keep the fire going better if the wood is a bit damp. ... RE: Making Burlap Stiff
A really thrifty way to stiffen fabric is to use equal parts sugar and water. Just boil until the sugar is dissolved and let cool. Saturate your fabric and form into the desired shape. Let dry for a few days and you are ready to go! ... View related article.

RE: Cooking Frozen Chicken
Many crock pot recipes actually call for frozen chicken. I am pretty sure the "fix it and forget it" recipe books for slow cookers specifically say to use the chicken while it is frozen. My favorite frozen chicken recipe is super easy. Just toss some frozen boneless, skinless chicken breasts in the crock pot. Pour 1 c teriayki sauce over the chicken and then pour a can of pineapple chunks over the top, juice and all. Cook 4-5 hours on high but check frequently as cooking times may vary. This is great alone or over rice. ... View related article.

RE: Halloween Costumes For Big People
How about wrapping yourself in aluminum foil and going as baked potatoes? Talk about a thrifty costume! Last year I bought a large brown sheet set (ultra cheap at walmart I think) and made easy costumes for my hubby and myself. I just cut and hemmed the sheet so it covered most of our body from shoulders to rump (cut leg holes and gather at the neck) then hung a soup ladle(or dipper) around my hubby's neck. You guessed it-he was a "dip***t". I wore the brown sheet with my angel wings and halo from last year and was "holy ***t". Everyone thought it was very creative and funny. ... View related article.

RE: Removing Odor From Clothing Left in Washer
Febreeze makes a laundry odor remover that works great, but I usually do the vinegar method too. There is also a product called Affresh that will clean all the odor causing residue in your washing machine. The package has 3 tablets and we got it at Home Depot. You just drop a tablet in and run a hot wash (empty). This was a miracle for me! My washer was really smelly after washing so many flood soaked items this summer. ... View related article.
