RE: Princess the Cat
What a cutie-pie!
I hope you can feel your wings, because you must be truely an angel to have taken in such a sweet creature in such a bad time.
It's a shame that some people only think of themselves in time of disaster, and not of their furry children ( as my wife and I call our two cats ). ... View related article.

RE: Dangerous Foods for Cats
I was told by my vet to NEVER, NEVER give tuna to cats regardless how much they beg for it. He told me how tuna contains compounds that causes serious kidney dammage and can eventually cause kidney failure. Nothing breaks his heart more than when he has to put a cat down for end-stage renal failure because their owners were giving them 'something special' out of love. Tuna flavored treats like Pounce are perfectly fine as if they actually contain tuna, the compounds have been processed out.
As for giving them just the tuna juice, my vet said that your cats were unbelievably lucky to live their long lives. Giving them just the juice, he says, is no better than giving them the tuna. It causes the same dammage. ... View related article.

RE: Prepaid Wireless Reviews
Net10 Wireless. Same network as Tracfone, but 10 cents a minute if you buy 300 or 3000. Also 5 cent text messaging. The phones cost a little more but can be WELL worth it!

RE: I'm Having a Hard Time Being Thrifty
I'm still learning how myself. However, I have discovered a couple of things.

You need to pretty much reprogram the way you think. What I mean by that is that you need to sort your desires into 'wants' and 'needs' (i.e. I WANT that new DVD player, but I NEED to pay this bill). Trust me, it's not as easy as it sounds...at least it wasn't for me, anyway. Basically, I prioritize my purchases. Top priority items are groceries, bills and perscriptions (ask your doctor about generics and save BIG). Lower priority things are things you won't miss if you don't get them. Things like a bigger TV or eating out. If I need to buy a new appliance due to the death of the old one, I try to find a decent used one first then shop the sales inserts in the paper. Most people do it the other way around and end up spending more than they have to. All you need to do is find something you need used and in good condition, and you will be hooked. for example, last year I needed a new dryer when my old one died...it was 12 years old. The cheapest one in the circulars was over $250, but I found a Whirlpool dryer that originally sold for close to $400, used for only 6 months for $125 in the local want-ads. My clothes get just as dry as if I bought the new one.

Name brands usually cost much more than a store brand which is just as good. Green beans are green beans whether or not they say Del Monte or Food Lion. This was hard for my wife to accept. I finally had to make a dinner for her where I used the store brands and didn't tell her until she commented on how good it was. Now, that is all we buy and save ALOT doing so.

RE: Printing In Black and White
You can also use 'Fast Draft' mode and save even more time and ink. If you are only printing text, the difference is pratically unnoticilbe. Also, never pay more for specialty 'Inkjet Paper'. I use regular photocopier paper and it works perfectly and is MUCH cheaper. ... View related article.

RE: Going Back to My Mama's Ways
This post has made me nostalgic for my grandma's cooking (lord knows I would give my right arm for one of the dinners I took for granted as a kid). She was born in 1906, on a farm in Nelson County Virginia. She was one of 8 children where she and her twin brother were the oldest. They ate what they raised and grew, seldom went to the store and NEVER ate out.
I remember asking her one day about how she and her family faired through the great depression. She said she hardly noticed. You gotta love people like that, god knows how I miss her now. She was a very wise person. Not just possesing book-smarts, but also real-world experience. She never minded one bit taking the time to listen to the banter of a mischevious 5 year old grandson or to cover for him when he was just a bit naughty. She was in every sense of the word, a saint. This August 23, she would be 100 years old and I plan to visit her site, light a candle and sit a spell with a truely wonderful person.
Thank you for your post, and for reminding me of the single most influential person in my life. ... View related article.

RE: Make Your Own Saddle Soap
Just wondering. Do you really need the entire 3.5 cups of water? When I made this recipe, I had to simmer it for 3 hours before it thickened. Is that normal? I followed the recipe to the letter using beeswax. ... View related article.
